just watched episode one, it was good I enjoyed it, entertaining and no garbage that was a feature of old TG.

Everyone opinions are different, but are you sure you watched the same show? I thought much it was garbage. The race picking up queens on the beach was hardly quality viewing!

The race between two pioneering off road vehicles was very interesting and entertaining for an old off reader as was the segment on the Ariel Nomad off reader.

The new track for the stars in a car was a very good idea.

Yes Chris Evans could do with some voice couching, a bit surprising given his radio back ground but at least he know cars and isn't a xenophobe or a racist.

Matt LeBlanc was very good especially his driving skills.

Personally the entertainment value rather than the PC rating is more of interest....

So what did everyone think of episode 2?  Personally I enjoyed it a lot more than ep 1.  Chris Evans talked less, which was nice, and they had some decent guests on.  It's a completely different show, but, I could get into it if they keep on this track.

I thought it was good entertainment.  Some interesting cars, good guests.

Interesting that Chris Evans not so subtly mentioned he had bought one of the McLaren cars that was featured - so he's not doing too badly for himself despite his vocal skills

The "New" Top Gear reviews need to be filtered into two piles.

1) Evaluations from JC fanboys - Nothing will ever be good enough to replace him so Top Gear is always doomed as far as they are concerned. These results can go in the bin as nothing any human being or large British Broadcaster can ever do will fix the lack of JC. Build a bridge - watch The Grand Tour when it surfaces.

2) Evaluations from the rest of the viewers.

As someone in pile 2 - I dont know much about Chris Evans. Not sure on why they chose him - seems a little bland and was trying way too hard - he has a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders (from the people in pile 1). Matt LeBlanc was actually quite good.

Hopefully they will warm up a little and relax a bit more. Though the people in pile 1 will not let up the vitriol until they kill Top Gear - as some sort of tribute to JC - so dont know how this will pan out.

I never actually noticed Jeremy Clarksons initials before - JC - The messiah? Seems some really think so.

He's mega wealthy. He has a whole climate controlled garage full of exotic/classic cars in which the McLaren would be one of the cheaper ones.

I think a classic $8m Ferrari of his was featured on one of the old Top Gears.

Agreed. Lots of shows take a few episodes for the actors to get into the groove, and find their "voice". I am a JC fan, but willing to see how this pans out.

Still not a fan of the 2 presenter format, nor of the 2 stars format in the car. I'd rather hear more about 1 stars car history and current going ons than comparison stuff like it is. Extra gives some news, but I liked that part of the show in the original.

By the sounds of it, there is plenty of hate to go around, so I wouldn't expect so.

The big disappointment with the new series is the limited use of the English language. I think that it really does matter that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are all journalists and writers.

I found the new series was just as good on the merits and failings of vehicles. The head to head comparison of the old workhorses was OK as was almost everything else. But the quirky characteristics of the old presenters were much missed.

There was little change in the old show's signatures - just a change of presenters who borrowed from the previous incumbents wherever they had nothing better to offer.

The old presenters were reactionary and there was no shortage of politically incorrect statements. But at least they knew how to make good use of their English. The lack of wit, a paucity of charm, and narry a good pun meant that we only laughed once in the whole show.

There is a third category. Some of us do not think JC walks on water and have only a passing interest in cars, but we enjoyed the easy banter and 'chemistry' between the three presenters. That is what is missing from the new line-up. The current show may or may not be horrible, but that is not what matters to me. The cars are not enough to keep me interested. Neither are the hosts. Um, I guess that covers it.

As has been said there really needs to be a third presenter to start bouncing around ideas and get the banter going. Episode 1 was just awful, I wanted to reach into the TV and gag Chris Evans, and Matt Le Blanc was just flat, there needed to be a go between so his understated humour could shine. I would like to see Chris Harris in the mix, but at the same time don't think the mix would work, especially having 2 hosts named Chris! Extra gear this week was a bit flat too with out Chris Harris there. I am really hoping that Top Gear does find its feet. It would be a shame if it didn't make it to a quarter of a century.

I'm willing to give it a few weeks.
When TG USA first started I didn't like it in comparison to the original, but it has grown on me as its hosts have developed their own on screen personas. If Chris Evans can stop shouting, that will be a good start.

Don't forget the 3rd (and possibly most influential) pile -

3) The keyboard warriors who hate anything to do with BBC. Regardless of whether they are JC supporters, or not, they will moan about the new show just because it is put together by "Aunty". There are also a few UK media outlets that love to bash and stir up Aunty, just because they can.

Ratings will be the key, based purely on entertainment value at the end of the day. I am keeping an open mind at this stage as I really do want to warm to it. I really do, (or at least until the boys return on Amazon).

Who knows? The Amazon programme may end up flat and tired as well.
