I have conducted a careful scientific experiment:

I played Muses HAARP album at full volume

Results: The windows vibrated a little but no earthquake.

Conclusion: Only small localised tremors are felt... the earth didn't move

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

It happened before. They got here, acquired some New Zealand passports for their travels.

look i know this post goes a long way back and i havent had a chance to read on but i have an burning itch that i need to scratch -

firstly: in western rich countries, it has been quoted 20% of people control 80% of wealth. buying a playstation goes nowhere near earning $1000-$1800 a day for sitting in the christchurch earthquake panel.

buying VW golf GTis goes nowhere near earning 100,000 pounds a week for sitting on the bench of a football stadium.

countries that export milk make nowhere near as much money as countries that export petroleum. and even in those countries there are beggars. even in NZ i have seen patients who have saved up 16 years to buy a washing machine - they work as hard as any other person in the country.

and why are third world countries poor? it's because the dictators' family and friends take 99.9% of the countries' income. are there not diamonds and gold in some african countries?

look i'm not saying don't think about the poor, don't look after the needy. please do, everyone! but there are things encrusted within capitalism (every man for his own) that has many things stuffed around. i don't know what the most effective solution is apart from global communism run by a morally incorruptable ET - god?

Common sense would suggest that if the 'big players' and large greedy money making corporations came in to the field to play & actually contributed to helping the poor, rather than using these poor starving people as slaves to produce the "greedy corporations" product. Then maybe, just maybe, western civilisation could help the needy & starving.

But the lust for money & power won't allow this. The people that are involved in Capitalism are too consumed with their everyday lives to consider the possibilities of finding a remedy for this ever increasing, ever growing problem.

If you are suggesting the artificial limiting of profit then consider this ...

Artificially limiting profit would limit return on investment. This in turn would reduce the amount
of funds from investment.

Without investment, no capital
No capital, no development.
No development, no new products
No new products, sales plummet
Sales bring profit
Profit brings employment
Employment brings income
Income brings well being.

Economics and regulation deal with this.

If profit in an industry becomes 'excessive' then others will join the industry and competition will bring profits back to sustainable levels.

In industries with monopolies (there _ARE_ real and good reasons for some monopolies) regulation intervenes with the theoretical result of keeping prices and profits from drawing a monopoly rent.

How many modern, or ancient, civilisations have succeeded along these lines.

But the lust for money & power won't allow this.The people that are involved in Capitalism are too consumed with their everyday lives to consider the possibilities of finding a remedy for this ever increasing, ever growing problem.

... and soo we end up with a number political eco-systems which claim to be working for the greater good.

- Do you stay with the utopian view and watch it morph through to an Orwellian society (and there's plenty of evidence that this happens)
- Embrace a promising but rigid doctine of Dictatorship. (It's all very well until someone looses an eye)
- Support the community of socialism. (Knowing how to speak French here has advantages)
- Become a born again Capitalist (Because you can)
- Or sit around a campfire singing Kum-ba-ya. (Because the sun has turned off for the day).

In the beginning surely we do all want for the best, but defining whats best for you, whats best for me, and whats best for Israeli tourists with 5 passports, is not the same. (Whether you're eating your GE enhanced cornbread or your Organically mutated toast.)
