The reason Kyle ren was bested by rey was because e had been shot by the bow caster.

We see several times in the movie people being shot by the bowcaster and they get absolutely Rekd. Han even says something like 'wow can I have a go'. kylo ales a shot to the gut and survives it. He must be using an Enormous amount of his will and concentration just to stay alive. So for him to be able to beat fin (a soldier trained from birth) is pretty impressive. He is then so weakened by the hit he loses to rey (I think at one point he slumps and clutches his wound showing how much it is draining g him)

I'd add that he'd just murdered his father, so his mind may not have been on the job :)  There was a choice between having Ren limping around and keeping the fanboys happy, or having a cool fight.  I'm glad they went with that later.  Much better than all the CGI acrobatic nonsense of the prequels.

Just saw this today and was disappointed. As others have said it just feels like a reboot.

Yet another death star that again gets blown up by a small squadron of rebel fighters, this time more lethal than the previous two but more stupid too because it takes the energy from the sun, but then spares the solar system from a slow cold death by blowing up all the planets. A star killer is not quite enough.
Another bad guy who is a relative of the good guy.
Main protagonist is a person who has lost their parents and lives on a sandy planet finds a droid with plans hidden in it, etc etc.
Maz Kanata comes off as an orange Yoda.
Rey and Fin can just pick up a lightsaber and match Kylo. Apparently Luke really is a lousy Jedi teacher.
Han has never used Chewies bowcaster and is surprised how powerful it is.

Sure it's better than the prequels but that's really not that hard to do is it. Unfortunately it doesn’t come close to capturing the feel of the original movies.  I’ll give it a +1 for not having too many noticeable lens flares.

I saw it in 3D. My thought was they removed all the lens flares in the 3D version to avoid blinding the audience : ).

I personally think we should give it a solid 5/7

I think it captured much of the spirit of the original trilogy but the number of repeated elements bugged me too. It jarred me out of the flow of the movie more than once. The 'plot holes' don't bother me- as pointed out, you can explain them away or suspended disbelief.

I'm looking forward to the next one. 1,2 and 3 don't exist, far as I'm concerned.

Boy, am I sick of people bring things up about the Adidas stripes! If you read my post (it's easy to find its the 4th one on the first page) you'll note I said fears of an endorsement-fest were totally unfounded. The merchandising will be more than enough and it shows what a genius George Lucas was to retain the rights for the merchandise during the original and prequel eras.

Over the past few days I have watched the Family Guy Starwars episodes. I was hoping they may do episode 7,8,9 versions. The difficulty being that Peter's character gets killed off, Chris' character gets 2 minutes at the end of the first movie and Stewie isn't in them at all. So maybe not.

.

Science FICTION remember.

Edit: removed (one) irrelevant comment.

Don't forget that Rey demonstrated her proficiency with a staff back on Jakku when they tried to kidnap BB8. Not a huge leap to go from a staff to a light saber.

Certainly not even close to the endorsement advertorial masquerading as a safety video that the All Blacks did for Air NZ....!

That even featured an Adidas close up and the words "Nice shoes!"....!!

drquack32: If Rey was Lukes daughter, surely Han would either know this when he sees her or figure it out as she becomes force aware. Surely he would know if Luke had family. I think this is why Rey is more likely to be a Kenobi and you can hear Alec Guinness' voice in that flashback scene as well.

I agree with almost everything you mentioned there - except this line. Actually is not disagreeing but an obvservation. Like in Episode IV, V and VI the screenwriters on VII make a point of not explaining things.

It was clear in Episode IV that Obi-Wan knew more about Luke's father than he told the young man. In Episode V it is clear Yoda knows more about Luke's father than he told the young man.

I think in Episode VI Han, Leia, and Maz know more than they told Rey. Perhaps because it's their thinking that she should find out things by herself on her own time, just like Luke did all those years before her?

I had not thought of that. Its a fair position to take.

I saw the movie yesterday. I liked it. Although I have a weird feeling about the rest of the movies without Han. A movie like this needs his character to point out the insanity of the moment and joke about it.

For those pointing out the plot holes in this movie. 4,5,6 all had massive plot holes. It goes with the star wars territory and I don't mind that.

As for my theories on the movie.

My feeling is that Ray and Ben are brother and sister. I don't think they are twins I think Ben is a few years older bit older and I kind of feel that she may have been at Luke's academy at the same time as Ben. After Ben betrays Luke Ben drops Ray off on Jakku. He shows to much interest when they say with a girl. And I don't think that Luke would have left his daughter behind.

I also read a rather good theory that says that most of the Flash Backs that Ray sees are actually flash forwards. As the majority of the flash backs happen after Luke lost his hand during the battle on cloud city. And in the previous movies obi wan said that the force knew the future.

I noticed Rey got many of the humor lines in this one. Maybe that will continue.

I don't buy that cause Han and/or Leia would know they had a second child... I can't hypothesize a situation whereby this works in what you suggest above.

Rey may have the lines, but he can't deliver them like Han.

That's one  of my disappointments with all of the new cast.  They just don't excite.

They needed to find someone with charisma lined up to replace Han. Bring on Jason Statham I say!
