When you had a friend who bought a VHS top loader when they came out, at a paltry $3500, and spent $500 to upgrade the 5 mile remote CORD with a IR remote. Gross that back to the purchasing power of $4000 in those days. In fact I just will. RBNZ calculator, tells me that $4000 in say 1985 is equivalent to $11,038 in todays money.

My parents had a top loader National branded VHS player

You know you're old when you used to watch Rhubarb and Custard when you were having tea - although unless you grew up in the UK this probably won't mean anything to you unless you watch You Tube and look it up.

Edit - and were eating Findus Crispy Pancakes for your tea...

Oh and they had competition called "David Reid Electronics".

David Reid was great, my dad bought a crystal set kitset for me from there. Listened to AM radio, and then I rebuilt it years later based on Spot On's crystal set instructions. I sent a self addressed envelope off to Danny Watson & co for those instructions.

Oh and I still wish Olly Olson was on TV signing to kids to, 'keep cool til after school'.

David Reid, yeah. Trinity House, ChCh, dunno f it was elsewhere. Jaycar is the equivalent these days

When you were young you may have needed glasses but now you need glasses, no glasses and your other glasses (or contacts), and usually within seconds and turn about. Very inconvenient. Makes shopping a lot more of a chore.
