kiwifidget:

Let me try a course correction.

I wish the lightproof bottles had been around when I was working full time.

They would have been a godsend in the workplace lunch room.

I tended to lunch later than everyone else, so by the time I got to the lunch room the milk had been left sitting out on the bench for an hour at least. Sometimes even since morning tea.

I soon got used to NOT having a hot beverage at lunch/afternoon teatimes.

Bad enough it had been out of the fridge for a while , but the light exposure made it go off even quicker.

So will the warming effect of being out of the fridge..

Fred99:

You clearly didn't read that article I linked to.

It's not quite as simple as "calories in / calories out" .

I read it twice.

Referring back to the candy vs broccoli example (the one in the article)...

Assume your diet was entirely candy and you need 2,700 calories per day but you only eat 2,000 calorie of candy each day.  The cost of digesting candy is negligible and you are short 700 calories per day.   You will lose weight, despite the poor quality of that diet.

Now swap broccoli for candy ... and eat 2,000 calories of broccoli every day.  That's 6kg but lest pretend you can. The cost of digestion will be ~400 calories.  My point is that 400 calories goes on the 'out' side.  It's not a reduction to your calorie intake.

BTW I've dropped 17kg over the last 9 months using calories in - calories out, not being particularly careful about what I eat, but regularly walking and doing weights.
