I have refused to read this forum because I have been waiting for the FTA broadcast schedule.

Today I have just programmed my PVR for GoT s8 on Prime Ch10 starting Sunday 12th through to Saturday 18th for 2130.

AND

I can not wait.

I will now not read this forum till Sunday 19th.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Honestly, seeing some of the strategic decisions by Danni and Jon in the past 2-3 Episodes, I can't really get my head around either of them sitting on the Iron Throne.

I'm feeling that about the writers in the last series or so.  Massive push to wrap it up has seen the travel times etc established in the early seasons just disappear.
It's like the show is now all about the big battles and less about character depth or a story line that makes sense anymore.

Unless that's on Sky then it's still in SD on freeview right?

Doesn't seem right to watch this final season on less than HD.  Even then the night scenes suffer horribly from compression.  Might be a real candidate for Bluray, to provide the bitrate depth certain episodes desperately need.

Catching up a bit:

I was pretty unimpressed by the way they conducted the Battle of Winterfell. It was always going to be about holding the walls of Winterfell. Why waste 20,000 Dothrakie on a stupid charge into the dark? That was nuts.

I'd have kept everyone inside the walls and organised them to move to the top as their comrades fell.....so there were always teams manning every dip in the wall.

Also ....the fire trench. A short term deterrent.....but all the dead need to do is stand and wait.....or do what they did.

Yeah......clearly not a lot of thought went into the defenses...or the tactics.

The problem with putting a lot of thought into the defenses/tactics is that then the dead would not break into the castle and you would not get all the opportunity for hand to hand action through the libraries and dining halls of winterfell.

Strategy and tactics comes second to producing an exciting episode full of suspense.

Bran really needs to step up, for someone that can go back in time and listen in on events of the past. You'd think he would go back a few weeks figure out what Cersi's plan is and let his buddies in on it, Dany might still have couple dragons and the iron fleet would be at the bottom of the ocean.

I think Bran is actually just a little bit mentally challenged...all this nonsense of him being the three eyed raven and seeing stuff...has he been on the Northern mushrooms?

He does nothing to aid anyone's cause...including his own.

You could easily have had intelligent tactic that were just overwhelmed by force of numbers leading to the same hand to hand fighting.

I think it would have increased the sense of helplessness. A series of intelligent fall back operations with bad losses, horseman fighting the flacks with slow slow drips of losses. A pause where after many living losses where perhaps there's the hint of survival and breathing space. Queue the dead king who revives all the newly dead and throwns them at the castle walls in greater numbers than before. Including characters we saw die earlier on

Dead piling up at the bases of the walls turning into the ramp which others climb over showing that holding the wall was ultimately futile. Include shots where reserves waiting inside castle move up to replace the losses on wall but still overwhelmed by the dead rampart method of wall climbing dead.

Let's not forget that battle used to be just that.
Turn up on either sides of a field at some agreed time, and then just go at it until one side is overwhelmed, braveheart styles.
Ridiculous but happened.

I'd imagine her 2 foot height difference may be a slight giveaway.

Well, perhaps he is intervening in ways that aren't visible. Time works like that.

I don't know why we've had to cram all of this into one final season.  It's clear it's deteriorated back into standard Hollywood methods now that the source material isn't available as a reference guide.

Characters, their development and history to date (and just plain sense) are being skimmed over to get to the major milestone points.

We managed to get from Winterfell to Kingslanding via the portal in a few seconds, a journey that used to take a whole season etc.

One assumes being a bird attracts night kings more, but basically bran just zoned out and went to fly a bird during that whole battle.

Jamie on again off again with his sis.  What a random turn of events for someone on a redemption story arc.

This all feels like the forced rush wrap up season, quite removed from what we've been building over the previous years.

White walkers building since the very first scene of S01E01?  Just get them (and all their back story questions/pattern clues etc) out of the way somehow quickly.

I don't understand why only 6 eps. 8-10 would have allowed for much better better filling of the story.

The producers have moved on. Wrap up the last of GoT and get on with the prequels or other spinoff series that must have already got financing.
