Oh no, another Win10 Update requiring a restart!
Wonder how long I can put this one off?
Wonder what it will break this time? (Only one update restart hasn't broken anything that I have noticed since May!
(I actually dread doing a restart!)
Online subscription companies that say this in their terms...
Please note that you can change or cancel your membership at any time before your renewal date
So, I cancel 2 days before the renewal date, but, they charge my CC anyway and I have just paid for another entire month. I'd even set a calendar alert to cancel , what a waste of time.
I complained via email, but I'm just waiting for them to say I should have cancelled earlier. At which time, I'll direct them to their own terms and conditions.
I don't know why some New Zealand companies insist on manual cancellation processes. Especially when the subscribe process is all online.

Yep. I recently cancelled an online subscription to The Age (Melbourne newspaper). To cancel, you either have to call or log a support ticket. Their initial response is to come back with lower cost package options. If reply to say you want to cancel, they come back with a retention offer (half price for 3 months or something like that). Wasn't until my second reply of please cancel (So 3rd request) did they process it.
They do this to a) make it generally hard to cancel and b) to give them opportunities to try and retain you with other offers.

I don't blame them for trying to retain subscribers but the situation described by @surfisup1000 is dishonest practice and deserves to be stomped on.

I had a similar problem with Lightbox. Closed my subscription, they kept removing money from CC a/c. Log in to check my account, it says it's closed. However CC details are saved - I can't remove them from their records unless I register a new valid CC on the same account (That should be outlawed). Bank tells me they can't stop payment. Call Lightbox - give up after waiting 5 minutes on hold. Cancelling and getting a new CC issued by the bank sorted it , but IIRC you can only do this once a year without getting charged. (You can still put a temporary block on a card using ANZs phone app - I guess probably also on the web).
I get annoyed with people on the internet (I know! It's shocking and almost unheard of).
Case in point: Mountain Biking subreddits. Kids go on and ask simple questions, like "Hey, just got this bike for my birthday and I love it. What do you think?".
Standard answers are, "Trash" or "Get new forks, those are garbage", or "Don't expect that to last long"...
Easy answers would be, "That's great, good for you" or "Nice Bike". But if it's under $5k and doesn't have the latest Air Fork and Carbon wang polisher, it's just not worth it, as far as these people are concerned.
It's the same when people ask, "What's XYZ brand like, I am looking at it for my bike as an upgrade". Those same "hard core bikers" just dump on these poor people from behind their cool user names and Reddit Upvotes.
There's so few people that are actually constructive. And don't get me started on the NZ Subreddit. If you're not a home-owner-hating communist, stay away.

... Carbon wang polisher,...
I'm intrigued......this is a bicycle accessory, right?😁
Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

I see the same thing with high end audio gear in particular. If you are not one of the cool kids, your face must be ground into the dirt.

Probably kids are less affected by Internet BS than the rest of us... they've been seeing this for their entire online lives.
I learnt years ago, on a DIY forum, pre the whole FaceTube thing, that even people who are trying to help can feel negative. You ask a question, get a dozen answers, of which a couple are exactly what you want, and there's an asymptotic curve of replies about how to achieve perfection. Whilst the perfection would be nice, it also requires the fine motor control and coordination of an Olympic gymnast. And, in the end, good enough is good enough.

I wonder if some of that is the aggressive, in-your-face American style vs. the more passive British style, use of whimperatives and similar? So instead of "Get new forks those are garbage" you'd have "You may want to consider replacing your forks, those ones tend to have problems with rust after a few years".

Sure enough, they came back with a lower price option. But, I don't want it so they accepted that and are giving me a refund. At least I didn't have to argue with them I suppose.

There’s a simple solution to your complaint - don’t read crap in the internet. It’s not a problem I have ever had. 😀
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

What else would I do with my life? Actually ride my mountain bike? MADNESS!!
