Not ‘something small’ but something that really annoys me is the apparent lack of planning regarding infrastructure in NZ. There are a lot of examples but a few recent local ones that come to mind are:

the clowns at Watercare who completely failed to plan for population growth in Auckland’s water supply.
the turkeys who appear to have neglected maintenance on the rails into Auckland’s Britomart station.
the decades-long procrastination on developing a second harbour crossing in Auckland. And now the bridge is broken .....

Not to mention the ineptitude at Transmission Gully.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Taken kids to playground on a sunny Sunday morning and some moron(s) overnight have smashed signs and concrete blocks...

Then I suppose are the rate payers who scream when ever rates are needing to be increased.

Effectively encouraging everyone/businesses to move to Auckland probably doesn't help

Short term thinking results in things.

People that feel they have to stand as close as humanly possible to Covid App QR code to scan it. If everyone would stand back a bit, we'd all be able to scan the code at the same time instead of being forced to do it one after the other.

I don't know whether you have a phone that has telepathy, but standing as close as possible and repeatedly jiggling and juggling the phone is the only way to get the MOH codes to scan. It's the bad design of the codes, not the people.

I don't know whether you have a phone that has telepathy, but standing as close as possible and repeatedly jiggling and juggling the phone is the only way to get the MOH codes to scan. It's the bad design of the codes, not the people.

I don't know if it's the codes, I've had to scan hundreds of them as part of my job going all over the show. I find the plain paper ones get picked up from miles away and almost instantly. It's the laminated and ones that are behind the shop window that I spend ages at.

Yep, it's the reflections etc. that cause the issues. In many cases you can scan them from a few metres away if they're clear.

Slack people who don't seem to care about their business.

I ordered some custom-made boat parts two months ago, wasted half a morning with the business owner measuring things up. I gave them a follow up call a couple of weeks later, was assured it would be ready in a "couple of weeks". Hadn't heard back from them so I dropped in to see them this afternoon. They hadn't even started the job - so I cancelled the order, heaving a sigh of relief that I hadn't paid a deposit. I'm meeting someone else at the boat tomorrow to measure up - this time at least when he says "a week or so" I'll know it won't be a couple of months.

(At the same time I ordered a new sail that had to be measured up locally, custom made overseas and shipped to NZ with an expectation of some Covid related shipping delay. It arrived about 10 days ago - about 6 weeks delivery as expected)

Was at a place this afternoon that had a paper QR code stuck to a table surface with sellotape around the edges. The paper had wrinkled - that wouldn't scan easily until stretched out flat.

Most places I agree, flat decent quality paper on a vertical surface, QR code printed on an A4 sheet, my phone picks most of them up instantly from about 3 metres away.

We have a mortgage. Its split to fixed rate and variable. We made the last payment on the variable yesterday. The bank took the payment as usual, except they only took what was necessary to pay it off then just closed it. No warning. So much for just leaving it there and maybe using it as a source to do the place up a bit. We could probably arrange that anyway if we want to...for a suitable fee I imagine.

Kiwi bank did the same for us. After paying off the mortgage/loan (thanks dad, shame you had to die tho) the mortgage account was removed from our list of accounts.

Our mortgage on the property title has not actually been discharged tho, so I'm pretty sure if I want a Ducati I just need to ring them up and fill in some forms.

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21
