ROFL No they don't well atleast when I was a solo dad I never got that much maybe a fortnight but not a week

ronw: As they should. I wonder why so many people are upset about Beneficiaries. Its not as if it was a large amount of money. I would have thought people would be far more upset about wealthy people committing fraud or down right stealing. How about getting upset about Cabinet ministers ripping off NZ by misusing their credit card, or claiming for Housing assistance in their electorate whilst they lived full time in Wellington, or setting up their house, banks account etc into trusts so they can hide things away from IRD. I would bet there is far more lost through white collar crime than through welfare benefits. But no one cares about such crimes. maybe its easier beating up on the downtrodden than criticizing so called fat cats

If he/they meet the Statutory requirements of Section 89 of the SSA then they will and should be granted Income Support.

That is another thread, you may care to start it???

The title of this thread is New Benefit Changes, which is why we are discussing beneficiaries.

Here in Australia, you currently get $5000 cash (In fornightly payments for 6 months) from the government when you have a baby (The "Baby Bonus").

Sadly, this has meant many cases of people having a child simply for the payday, without considering or caring about the long term impacts.

yeah not really - $295 is the base rate

fyi - i was raised by a solo mum - and she was an awesome budgeter - and still it was fricken tough financially

well if they don't know they soon will when the bene is cut, maybe a large majority are aware of the warrants as well, not all are as innocent as some would like to make out. So what if its traffice or minor offences unless they are innocent how is it an issue.

Well, I don't know the details, but it just seems like a moral knee jerk instead of a policy carefully designed to achieve a desirable outcome with the minimum harm and collateral damage to families and the community.

It's being cut to $2000 for the first child and $1000 for subsequent kids from march next year. And there's no "DPB" here any more, it's been switched to "newstart", which is what the dole is.

If you want the dole and have a warrant then present yourself to the police, if not then too bad.

the only ones causing grief to their families is the person with outstanding warrants.

Do they issue arrest warrants for parking tickets being overdue?

yep - i ended up with one way back when as the ticket went to an old address (via mv registration) - so i never saw it, it escalated over time and hey presto - arrest warrant...

it doesn't prove guilt just makes them go sort their smit out and if its sorted the bene starts again
