i used national bank to make the deposit, dropped by and asked some questions, the lady went off and talked to the manager and yeah they cant do anything, she suggested the Disputes tribunal but you cant file a dispute against a bankrupt or liqudated company, i doubt the police can do anything either.

could try 0800 367222 see what the citizens advice bureau think, im also waiting for fair-go to get back to me, although im expecting much the same answer as boby55 got

court - meh too expensive

anyone else tried citizens advice?

Disputes Tribunal, Citizens Advice, FairGo et al cant do anything for you.
Your best bet is to contact this guy (liquidator) and register your claim...

C1 cant even pay their suppliers so chances of getting anything back are basically zero.

So theres only one question left, after all of this is finished...

Who is everyone gonna go to as a replacement to C1?

I cant decided between computer lounge, Ascent or PBTech?

My vote is for PB Tech.

They have several branches, but I have found the staff at their Penrose store to be very helpful.  Prices are very sharp too, and you have the security of dealing with a substantial bricks-and-mortar business that isn't just some virtual store on the internet who can disappear overseas with your money as has happened in this case.

I use Ascent almost exclusively now, their service is excellent. I've placed 6 orders with them so far and they're always quick (the parts usually arrive the next day down here in Christchurch). I've used ComputerLounge once, they seem pretty good - they're a bit cheaper than Ascent but a bit slower, their website's not quite as good and they don't seem to have as much stuff to choose from.

The annoying thing with this c1com problem is there was only about $50 difference in price when ordering from either c1com or Ascent, and I unfortunatly chose the cheaper option. After I cancelled the hard drive and motherboard from c1com I then ordered them from Ascent which arrived before the CPU, RAM and case from c1com did!

I've been using Dynamic Computers recently,  while their web shop range is still small,  the prices are good and the service (including follow-up) is outstanding.

I can agree with Panmure PB, apart from the $15 DVD burner that had an Asian pron dvd inside (WTF!) also e-one which have both have served me well in the past.

Unless it's the Wellington branch which seems to charge quite a premium on top of the Auckland prices.

It is a walk-in shop though which is extremely rare in Wellington (but so are competitive prices)

I pretty much deal with Ascent (you can order online and go and pick up and pay at their offices if you live in Wellington - I did this all the time when I lived down there), PB Tech (using their website to browse and then visit their new Auckland city store), Computer Lounge (read my earlier post in this thread about their outstanding service), and Playtech (mixture of visiting their North Shore store and internet purchases).

I used buy from the cheapest outlet but the c1com story has really put me off doing that at the moment...

There are lots of "real" non-virtual computer stores in Auckland, from now on I'm just going to use them. I'll just browse their websites, get the best deal, and then call them to check if they have stock. And go pick the thing up and pay on pick-up.

If there is one glimmer of hope in this whole messsy situation, it is that those other small stores now have a better chance of making a living.

I'm facing the same dilema. The 4 things I liked about C1 was their delivery didn't require signing - so I didn't miss a delivery if I had stepped out, their price, their range, and the fact I could pick up if I needed an item quickly (I live in South Auckland). I've spent over 25k just at C1 over the last 4 or so years, far more than any other place. I had a look at CL but their range seems quite limited. PBTech are good for complete systems (they get a lot of sales from my referals) but their range of components isn't so great, and they aren't so cheap. For range Ascent can't be beat, and I use Aquilatech a lot too, though both these are in Wellington, so no good for a quick pickup if required.
