codyc1515: Hmm, let me see:
Capitalism: an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.
vs.
Communism: a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
Yeah, I think I know which one I prefer (and its not communism)...

Socialism

gzt: The article is actually a humor piece. Key is too smart give the unimaginative opposition easy ammunition, and Ken Rabble is an unlikely name.

Nope, quite prefer capitalism, but maybe with some spinklings of socialism and anarchism. It's like a healthy diet, you need a blanace![]()

Whilst the article is a humouris look at the current events the quotes are real as is the name of the organiser of the rally.

Sigh, this thread make me despair at the demise of actual intellectual thought. How many who have posted on here actually thought about both the protests and the current situation of mankind?
As for the above, its a perfect example of even how you think, is governed by the social construct that is provided to you. You think democracy is pick A or B? Capitalism & Communism are different sides of the same coin (no pun intended) being social control. Instead of asking is there a better way/choice, you merely blindly accept the status quo given to you without question.
Most claim capitalism is the best system, but how many have lived under different ones? I bet if you ask latin Americans/Africans about their views on it, I dont think they would quite agree. But to hell with the natives right? I mean your comfortable and warm, why should you give a damm about anyone else..
The same reason communism fails, is the same reason capitalism does... People are greedy, mean and selfish, and those that employ those traits succeed at the detriment of others..
To show you the hypocrisy of our ideology, the best capitalists are the Chinese, who are... Communists. The people who dont even believe in our system are better than it than we are.. Looks like Marx had a wee point there...
The current capitalist model is mathematically guaranteed to fail, infinite growth is impossible and people cant/wont grasp this basic fact because it threatens they system of belief so greatly, they feel it threatens them personally.
codyc1515:jofizz: Is anyone able to explain, in a few succinct sentences, what the Occupy movement stands for?
Thanks,
Joseph
Inciting violence in order to overthrow governments.
Thomas Jefferson: God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ... What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure

Have to pull this one up.. Your views seem at odds with men who years prior defined what it should mean to be truly free..

If 99% of the population agrees with your views, go start your own political party, and I'm sure everyone will vote for you.

I see there will be no intelligent debate with you. Such topics seem above your intellects' capabilities... Wouldnt have been easier just to call me a looney lefty, or a hippy or something?
codyc1515:
So now you are suggesting to incite violence?
