My scales being set to ounces instead of grams but only noticing while pouring a shot of espresso.

Wait....what...?  You weigh your espresso....?  I'm intrigued, tell me more.

The idea is that you weigh the shot so you produce the same ratio of espresso to beans every time. Volume isn't that reliable for espresso as it ignores how much soluble yummyness (and fines) have come out of the beans.

James Hoffmann is a great resource on YouTube if you want to learn more.

If you had an American nearby, you might have found a happy recipient for a pint of two of over-extracted coffee, bottomless cup with synthetic creamer.   They do seem prefer if it's left to stew for a couple of hours first though. Best with grits, sausage, biscuits and gravy.

Or they could have supplied me with a exquisite shot from a boutique roaster. It's a big country with lots of diversity.

True, but if freedom fries are on the menu and they serve grits...

OTOH something that really annoys me is Australian coffee snobs - oblivious to the cold hard fact that NZ gas stations often serve better coffee than most of their "cafes".

We should have a black tie dinner to celebrate, will you be there @Fred99?

Kidding...

Possibly - if it's in a state where they've legalised weed and illegalised child marriage.

Damn.  I'm trying to have a "rational" discussion on FB messenger with my sister who's an anti-vaxxer.

She's finally accepted that covid vaccines don't cause your arm to become magnetic.  That was a 3 day effort.

Argh! Dumb software.

We have a custom protocol called "apps", so if you want to launch app number 5, for example, then you can enter "apps:5" into a browser.

We needed to launch an app from a third-party system so we entered the URL as apps:5... and it took it upon itself to change this to http://apps:5 (which, naturally, doesn't work). There is no option to stop this automatic 'correction' from occurring.

Edit: I wonder whether "apps://5" would be accepted verbatim, although we'd need to update our launcher to handle this.

You are more patient than I am. I've disengaged from a few groups that have members who are rabid anti vaxxers.

Bummer. I was going to have the first shot in one arm and the second in the other to give me Magneto level powers.

As the saying goes, you can choose friends but not family.  Annoying as that may be.

You can choose to not interact with them.

Potential consequences with family often outweigh the annoyance which sparked it.

There's an app (android) that includes a way to get a visualisation of magnetic field over an image:

That shot of the magnetic field from my bluetooth speaker.

I want to see shots of your arm - after being 5G vaxxed.  I need proof.

(Edit: Maybe I should have looked harder at that image before posting.  It is safe for work, if you think you're seeing a shiny bum-shot or worse, it's pareidolia)

Reminds me of a time when I change my golf partners GPS measuring device from yards to meters. 6 holes in to the round he couldn't understand why he kept coming up short with an 8-iron from 145 yards**

**  It was revenge for a prank he pulled on me a few weeks earlier.

Phone magnetometers are extremely noisy for environment sensing, they're useful for phone orientation purposes (which is what they're intended for) but little else. To get a reliable reading you'd need to use multiple phones and cancel out the random noise between them, which would give you the actual field fluctuations.
