MadEngineer: Laptops without full keyboards

I need an insert key to use with shift-insert which is a special kind of paste. If the laptop has that it won’t have a dedicated end or page up/down keys, rather those will be shared with the numeric keypad

This DynaBook (aka Toshiba) laptop has a pause/break key which is useful for the system control panel shortcut (now about your system) but has too many functions shared with the numeric keypad. Great laptop otherwise. The power button is immediately above the num lock key. That’s gonna be great for when you need to toggle the num lock to use the aforementioned key functions.

Unfortunately beggars can’t be choosers with the lack choice with stock levels.

It surprises me that there are still so many compromises made for laptops...it's not like they're tiny secondary devices anymore.

The compromises are obviously to reduce the cost, size and weight All of which are obvious benefits for this laptop - I actually thought I miss-purchased a 14 inch laptop instead of a 15.6 when i received it.

Would a keyboard remapper work for this or does it depend on the hardware codes?

YMMV a great deal depending on what you want in a keyboard.

I type text for a living, and absolutely hate using laptops, especially ones with the 10-key cluster at the right for that reason. I have a laptop for travel and emergencies, and I specifically purchased one *without* the whole number pad thing at the right, (something similar to this) as having this means the rest of the keyboard is far too cramped for me to reliably touch-type at my normal speeds.

Even with the larger keyboard, it still messes with my head as all the keyboard shortcuts that I have in my muscle memory on my desktop keyboard are different. So much so that I usually take the desktop keyboard with me as well.

Take a full size USB keyboard with your laptop when you travel. If you have room for the one, you probably have room for the other.

Something that annoys me is how frequently I am seeing drivers on the road using their phones! You get the sneaky ones that try and hide the phone so you can't see it, but you know they are busy on their phone.

And then there are the ones that put it out there for all to see. Right above the steering wheel. Put your phone away and look for hazards!

To be fair, they are, in fact, looking at the hazard.  And in the process, being one.

I have to admit, that really irks me...the ones that REALLY get me are the drivers on the motorway...travelling at approximately 80-140km/h with a phone held below their steering wheel, so "others can't see I am on my phone".

These are the people that really put people in danger - and they are SO OBVIOUS in their inattention.

There is quite a simple solution to this, you simply suspend their license for six months.

Really peeves me off. Bit of reminder to really drive in a defensive manner and expect the unexpected.

Countdown's online shopping website.

It's got slower and slower to the point now of being almost unusable and I actually get a warning from Safari that their page is hogging so much in the way of resources that closing it would improve the performance of a 10 core Mac with 64GB of RAM!

When you eat out, at a place with an outdoor area, they bring plates, there is bird poo on them, and when you point it out, there is no reaction, they get another and leave it on your table. No shock, no apology, no investigation into how a plate with bird poo on it could have been in with the clean dishes. It wasn't the top plate either.

Yeah, at that point I'd be leaving...
