That was a good one.

One of your typical responses. Do you actually have anything to say about this?

Unlocked this - please do not discuss Trump. This is for discussion of military actions as the OP intended.

The first round is on. And they continue to use drones ("remotely piloted aircraft"). So yes, it's bad when it's Democrat, good when Republican.

A change in administrations isn't going to make much difference to their drone programme. It's easier to sell to the American public than images of their boys coming home in boxes.

Were you expecting a stop to all drone activity within the first few days under Trump? I seem to recall Obama promised to close Guantanamo Bay and yet it is open to this day.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

1) Obama didn't promise to close gitmo on day 1.

2) many people, including democrats, have lambasted Obama for failing on his promise to close it down.

3) Trump never actually promised to stop drone strikes - in fact he said they would continue, and went even further than that, saying that the US should not only attack terrorists, but should also kill their entire families too.

So I think the sarcasm here is directed at the OP - who seemed to hold the belief that when Trump took office they would magically stop on day 1

I didn't really get a sense of sarcasm.

1) True

2) They, like him, when he made his promises, did not have all the information, which he got when he actually became President which led him to then realize it wasn't safe to close it. There is a reason Presidents and world leaders age so quickly. The world is a scary place.

3) Agreed

I don't know the details but the Gitmo situation had a lot of back and forth. iIRC Congress for instance passed a law saying Gitmo detainees could not be prosecuted in USA, which effectively prevented any from being transferred to USA.

Pakistani villagers be scared of their children and if caught, be prepared for torture.

From what I've read Trump will do what he said he'd do - Fight fire with fire. Unless stopped by a judge of course.

amiga500:

I don't blame Obama for his lack of success in domestic policies - the Republicans blocked him at every turn.  ( FWIW in 2008 I was a big fan of Obama.)     I do blame him for the drones  & bringing misery to civilians in Pakistan.   Obama massively expanded the use of drones.    For every terrorist the drones killed it has probably radicalised another 10.   So when another truck drives into a crowd in Paris/Berlin/London who can be sure that the driver was not motivated by the drone program?

So good riddance to a very hawkish President.    It is a very bad joke that this guy was ever awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

I guess the "mother of all bombs" doesn't count as a drone.
