I haven't done any weight lifting in 4 months either as I can't get the time, but I try to look at all the lifting of him as off setting that.

Doing it without family support makes it pretty tough - same here. Wait until your baby is 3 years old, weighs 15 kg, and wants to be carried everywhere!
LOL my 10 Year old is only 26kg! :)
I feel your pain, literally, my back aches in sympathy.

Don't forget, it won't be just the lifting, it'll be all the running around with your kids once they start walking that you can look forward to. I made a conscious effort to get myself fit before my 1st son was born so I could do all the lifting/walking/running/playing without issues. This might be a good wake up call to get the body into shape and be the best possible parent you can be. Lugging around umpteen kgs of baby and baby gear doesn't get any easier unless you're willing to do something about it. I found going for long walks with the baby after work gave my wife some time and space to rest and recover with the added benefits of getting fit and bonding. This was doubly important as we were living in Japan at the time with no family support.
Easier said than done at the moment. He's being a vile little turd lately which isn't giving my wife much of a chance to do anything as he's not napping easily (we think this is the 4 month sleep regression kicking in). This pushes her job list back which means it overflows into the time when I'm home so there isn't much chance to do anything outside of taking over so she can actually do things.
We'll both get back into weights eventually, it's just there isn't any time for it -now-.

We accepted early on that having kids was going to be a financial hit and that it was going to hard work, so we spent extra money on some help for us. Someone to mow our lawns, a few hours a week or sometimes more of home help, someone to assist with the cleaning of the house.
It can be hard to accept or ask for help, but there isn't any shame on it, and to hell with anyone who looks down their nose at you as a result.
The day one of my wifes friends turned up with a huge pot of casserole for us, I nearly cried.
If you know someone who has a new baby or may be struggling, this is the gift I'd recommend for them :) We have made a point of doing it in return. It's always appreciated.
ok got it. pots of casserole for christmas.

one of my kids can't sleep coz his brain can't wind down. never napped since abt 10 mths.
one can't sleep if hadn't expanded enough energy or something's troubling him. (need both boxes ticked for sleep)
one sleeps on command.

Both my kids are like this - they are just 6 and almost 9 and regularly fall asleep just before 10pm. My 6 y/o generally wakes up around 7:30, unless its the weekend when he wakes up earlier... My daughter could happily sleep through to 9am.
One frustrating thing, is that weekdays, we have to drag out kids out of bed, weekends they are bouncing around at 7am.

I can relate to that, and I'm 45. :-p
I mean, on weekends there's so many things I *want* to do vs weekdays when I *have to* go to work.

We're pretty good situation in some regards, but losing out terribly in others.
He will sleep through the night at 4 months (waiting for regression to destroy this). We can get him down at 10:30pm and he can go to 6-7am next day. Sometimes he wakes around 3-4 and just needs a feed and he's out again.
During the day though, my wife spends ages to get him to nap for 20 minutes and he's fickle as hell and wakes up all the time. It's the nap times she needs so she can get stuff done.
