Remember how Patrick Gower on TV3 would give a countdown to election day 2014, by ending his broadcast  saying, 'It is 'X' days to election day.'?

Those signs on the Dick Smith windows remind me of that.    'It is 2 days to the closure.'

At 2 days to the closure Dick Smith Riccarton is about 3/4 empty with only a few bins of phone cases, cables, and random connectors.    Next to the counter they have more bins, including a bin with a whole lot of ADSL filters.    Some Apple computers but only with 15% off, and no sign of further reductions on the display laptops.   Another bin with Norton Anti-virus for 5 devices but that's about it.

Might go and have a look on the last day.

What is going to be more interesting now is to see what retailer goes into that empty shop.

Queensgate store only has a bunch of phone cases, USB and HDMI Cables, some ipods and a few laptops left.

They already have contractors in there removing all the fixed fittings

Went into Riccarton today, swarming with people going through the bins Cables with 95 percent off some down to $1.00 Some brand new i5 laptops at $719.00 not sure which brand, but were in new unopened boxes.
Only 1 mac on display. 6 windows laptops still on display. Shop was so busy I bumped into several people but everyone seemed in happy bargain hunting mode.

Went back, all but 3 of the brand new laptops have sold but the $719 one is a HP. Highly likely rest will sell by close as they sold five or six in one hour. Must have been at good prices I guess.

RIP Dick Smith.    They did some things right like being one of the few places to have cameras on display where you could actually touch the cameras,  and see how they felt in your hands.

14 days right of return was good too.

And apologies to the moderators for some of my posts appearing twice, they were done on my phone & nothing would happen on first touch, then 2nd time it would go, but appear twice.

DSE Riccarton.   Less than 24 hours after the closure they look just about ready to move out.    Front lower part of the shop stripped of everything.   Upper floor I could still see the Spark  stand.    Several people there including one sweeping up.    No signage left on front windows, and no signage saying they are now closed.     I guess after closing lots of shops already the Receivers have an efficient system now.

Saw one guy with his kids looking a bit surprised to see it closed!   Guess Westfield will put the temporary plywood panels over the frontage soon.

RIP Dick Smith. Mate went into the Queensgate on Friday night around 7pm as mall closes 9pm. He went in the top entrance and the main store was empty with a couple of staff inside and fixture dismantlement in full swing , but they'd left a tray full of Norton licenses sitting in the door way (which was still open). Probably one of the last to close assuming they followed normal hours but at that point there was nothing so it either got taken for auction or sold. As for the Norton we think they were hoping someone would just grab them to save disposal.

RIP Dick Smith.    Unless you want to jump on a plane, go to George Street Dick Smith on Monday or Tuesday, it's all over done and dusted.

RIP Dick Smith.

I will miss them. I remember going in there as a kid and being super fascinated with everything in there. I used to really like that brand.

Unfortunately not so flash in their later days...

Four days after the closure & the display stands for Samsung, Spark, and Apple are still there at the Riccarton shop, so the people saying it may be JBHiFi going in there could well be right.

This Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen is a sharp price too! (says the guy who recently purchased one for his daughter at a significant markup to this)

Hmm... wonder if thats the 2nd Gen model. PriceSpy is showing $398 as the cheapest price. And that's more inline with what we paid.
