As IT guy I'm usually running adblock but most of the normal users are not.

So how many ads do you reckon are the right amount in order of not being annoying?

My websites are always with only one skyscraper block on the right top side and works awesome.

What is your experience?

Getting back to the original question..

The number of ads on a website really depends on the website itself so its impossible to say.

One website I put 1, another website I put 2.. another website I put 3 .. it all depends. You really have to experiment and see how the number of adverts/the type of adverts/the placement of advert affects your income .

_but_ the most important thing about all of this is getting people to your website by creating the best content/talking/doing something that people want to know/use.
