Wow just realised that air NZ does not offer child fares! Feeling a bit disadvantaged with 3 little kids ... *sigh*
On the other hand we've enjoyed lots of free things when they were infants! (which other airlines might not offer)

Did anyone else not realise that?

mattwnz: lthough you do still have child fares,  on trains and buses. Although they are supposed to stand up and give their seat to an adult if they are standing, which I guess is becuase adults are paying full fare. That is not really possible on a plane.

Who said this? I have never seen this rule anywhere?

On Wellington trains

http://www.tranzmetro.co.nz/Detail.aspx?ID=6ff7cb57-88cc-4610-8df6-4d9cc589d7bc

School term passes School term passes are available to full-time primary and secondary school students for travel between school and the station nearest their home. School students without a pass are required to pay a child fare.   School Term ticket is available only between the stations specified, which are the stations nearest the holder’s residence and school, for one weekday return journey for the purpose of attending school.

  • Homeward journey to commence before 7.00pm
  • The ticket is NOT available for a break of journey
  • Holders must not occupy seats while adults are standing
  • Term Passes are not transferable and not refundable
On Wellington Buses

3.3 Any Passenger travelling on a child fare must stand if an adult requires a seat.

I am a little surprised they do have this policy still, in the PC world we now live in.

But it is common courtesy for a child to give an adult their seat, especially if the adult is elderly. I recall when I was at school, this was one of the rules too.

I have seen children being told by other adults to let an elderly person sit in their place on wellingotn buses, but children shouldn't need to be asked.
