Obviously an idiot. And it could just happen there's an even bigger idiot that may end up paying that.

I would say the seller has sold it through another means, and has risen the price high so no-one bids on it, and they don't get charged withdrawl fees by TradeMe.

It amazes me that people are actually buying those analog pieces of used crap on trademe for anything when a small panasonic dect phone is just over twenty bucks new, with a new battery etc.

I still think its amazing how expensive cordless phones are with such little technology, yet one can pickup an $80 cell phone that has many times more features than an $80 cordless phone (which is basically callerid and answerphone).

And decent power output. Why the hell is it so hard to find a cordless that will work all over a house and property, yet cells go for miles and miles to the cellsite and will usually work thru way more building than will kill a cordless.

Hell, my toy walkie talkies work furthur than my crap panasonic dect phone.

You can't compare cell phones with cordless phones.

Sure, you can get a cheap cell for 80 bucks, but you pay to use it. In paying for use of the cell phone, you are paying to use a fairly extensive infrastructure of cell towers which (normally) ensure full coverage.

In paying for a cordless phone, you are buying the phone, and the 'infrastructure', which is just the cordless phone base with a transmitter. It is a small, lower power transmitter, and is probably not installed in the best place in your house to give the best performance.

That's because there are power guidelines for DECT handsets, both on the TX power and the power limits imposed by some countries.

And you as well as anybody should know that cheap walkie talkie, probably on PRS, will have a lot greater range than a 250mW 1800MHz signal so your comparisions are meaningless.

The reason I was looking for the most expensive cordless phone was because I would like a cordless that can work with my VFX line Johnsonville wide. Our office is pretty central so getting a wider reception would be nice.

Pretty much any cordless phone you buy will have poor performance once you go a few meters away, out side the home/office.

So its just a regulatory problem that makes dect suck so much in general?
