Not sure where should I ask the question, so I will just put it here.

Does DSE still have that two weeks 'Change of mind' Policy, I couldn't found it under their return policy on their website anymore?

If not obvious I haven't shopping in DSE often nowadays, but I do always recommend it to my not so geeky friends mainly because their return policy and normaly knowable staff.

Also a google search returned this:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1769398

Doesn't looks good at all.

Probably not, as per this on their website

What should I do if I have changed my mind and want to return a product?
Please choose carefully as Dick Smith does not normally accept return of goods where you have simply changed your mind. For any product return enquiry, please approach our sales/service counter at any of our stores.

I've been told by people employed by dickies it no longer applies. Just be careful what you buy there, unless it's on serious special or considerably less than a competitor.

When I was in the Lower Hutt store maybe ~6 months ago I saw around 10 routers / modems all with their customer returned goods stickers on them, all back on display, and all as the front facing items on the shelf.

It really wasn't a good look when one of virtually every product that was visible wasn't a new product.

DSE stores have always displayed this stock on the shelf - not just Lower Hutt, but every DSE store I've ever been in to. I've always found it strange that there policy was to display this stock.

This policy is gone. they have signs on the checkouts saying that they don't accept returns for "change of mind". When I discussed this with the sales rep and said that NL still have this policy he said "no they don't they're all changing away from that" (paraphrased).

However on the NL site they still say they'll accept a product back within 14 days if it is the original packaging & with the receipt:
http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/customer-service/faq-A39866C22E605470CC2576B200096B01.html

Returns Policy

14 Day Right of Exchange

The customer can return any product for an exchange or Noel Leeming or Bond & Bond Gift Card within 14 days of purchase. On the condition that the product is returned in its original condition with packaging and invoice.
Products below are excluded from this guarantee, except where they are faulty
• Personal Care Items
• Headphones
• Gift Cards, Sim Cards, Recharge Cards and Vouchers i.e. iTunes
• Unsealed Printer Cartridges
• Software

Whereas DSE now have this:

So indeed its gone, since when?

I don't know, but I did feel good before when I bought something from DSE and knowing that I can return it if I changed my mind, but of course if I abuse that, I am not going to feed good about it.

Guess either the moral of the general public go downhill or the business don't care about this 'feel good' factor anymore, an they probably assume that if they don't give a damn about it, people will eventually don't care.
But I do care, and guess there is less reason for me to patronage DSE over other retailers.

It's a real shame, take for example buying a keyboard, which I had to do recently, the first one I bought, I wound up returning (bought from The Warehouse) because it didn't suit my muscle memory enough, that's not something you can really tell in-store.

Just further towards the dumbification of Dick Smith Electronics.  Sigh.

I went into the new Jaycar in Christchurch today, waaaaay bigger than their old store, which isn't necessarily a good thing though - I like pokey little stores packed full of stuff (Calder Electronics springs to mind).

I'm sorry knowable? Do you mean knowledgeable? I don't think too many people share your opinion on that.

There is heaps of competition around so it is not really a problem. Both are ozzie owned anyway. LV martin I believe has a 14 day return policy(unless it has changed), and they are NZ owned.

Yes, knowledgeable, it was a log day for me:D

I can only speak for myself, and yes, compare to other big chains, the DSE I used to visit often do have couple of really geek staffs who I can ask questions rather than the type of sales person you will see everywhere. Or guess it is the Linux Disks I bought back in 2004 or 2005 always remind me of the old good Dick Smith.

I don't see how stores really get rid of the returned stock when they just keep it out back.

It should be returned in the same condition as it was purchased, otherwise it shouldn't be able to be returned.
