Okay, based on my last thread I'm getting xnet fibre broadband.
I want a router which will give me wireless in my house for my iPad etc.
What is available on the market for this. A friend told me a typical ADSL modem will not work.

What we recommend is that you put a wireless access point in a central part of the house , something like the apple airport express or similar
sbiddle: You can buy an access point literally from anywhere - online stores or bricks and mortar stores like Harvey Norman, DSE etc.
An Airport express is handy if you've got apple products, but there are plenty of cheaper options. You can pick up a perfectly good TP-Link 802.11n AP for ~$45
ChrisNZL: The fibre connection and ONT (Optical Network Terminal) will most likely get installed in your garage.
Xnet's supplied WRP400 router sits in the garage beside the fibre ONT and connects to the Internet, and probably won't be suitable for wireless.
It is up to you to run CAT5 or CAT6 networking cables from the WRP400 to the Ethernet jacks throughout your house. Does your house have internal network wiring already installed? Ethernet ports in the bedrooms, lounge, etc?
You'll want to connect a wi-fi router to one of these jacks, maybe say in your lounge for best wireless coverage. kyhwana2's link is a good example of a standalone wireless router.
So your iPad would wirelessly connect to a wi-fi router in your lounge, which is connected to the WRP400 in the garage using a network cable, which is connected to the fibre ONT beside it which talks to Xnet's Internet servers.
ChrisNZL: >Do they still need access to the house to do this install?
Assuming ducting is already laid from the road to your garage, Chorus will probably only need to access your garage to pull the fibre to your house and install their equipment inside.
Do you have a cabinet in your garage already? Here are some pictures of my setup.
If you have "data" jacks (RJ45) then the internal wiring is probably done.
>Does that link include the WAN connection?
Not sure about a "WAN" port but there's an Ethernet port on the back. Should just talk to the WRP400 router automatically with a network cable.
