I've noticed few fiber providers are trying to charge you a connection fee before actually verifying the technical capabilities.

 

 

 

Are there any that do not, or is the fee refunded if connection is not possible?

 

 

 

I live in difficult housing arrangement - townhouse in CBD, so not sure how many agreements you need to get the line in.

If you go on a contract (12 month etc) there is usually no connection fee.

 

The funny thing is, LFC's like Enable don't actually charge for the install, its govt subsidized.

Yeah just found out that it's the fee that ISP pays to Chorus to asses my premises.

 

 

 

Also found out that the consent was already given. Does anyone know what does this really means in terms of status?

 

 

 

This consent is given by who? Chorus, gov, 50 different property owners and their tenants?

I recently took fiber from Spark, had to get Body Corp & Landlord's approval. But took almost a month & half to get it installed. The delay was partly due to the year-end break.

You posted this in the orcon section so I assume you are talking about orcon here? I thought they did free installation with a contract, and had no other options.

I'm not aware of any ISP charging up front before a connection is lodged.

 

Non complex residential installs are still free nationwide. Non complex business installs are a fixed fee which is (off the top of my head) two months monthy connection charge.

 

The MDU process is covered in depth on the Chorus website. If contributions are required these will be discussed with the body corp / building management.

All ISPs that offer no contract options charge a connection fee. You pay it when you sign up, before any scoping etc is done. There are quite a few of them,including spark. They charge $299 up front (also gets you a modem) when taking ufb without a contract.

Yeah, pretty common. BigPipe charge $50 but refunded if the connection isn't possible or doesn't happen
