So, I've goen around the various businesses and shops etc and collected the forms that have been completed so far. All up roughly 178 signatures so far. I'm sure a few of you will say "pfft wasted" but our concerns need to be heard.

Good effort. I'm presuming you also asked them all how much extra they were prepared to pay for upgraded BB as well... What was the typical answer?

Upgraded? Surely the users should be receiving an adequate service and the provider should be ensuring their equipment can deliver the advertised service?
I'd be mighty upset if my electricity provider only supplied 25 volts instead of 230 volts during high demand and then expected me to pay extra for the privilege of having a usable service.

I'd be mighty upset if my electricity provider only supplied 25 volts instead of 230 volts during high demand and then expected me to pay extra for the privilege of having a usable service.

If you haven't, please read the entire thread. There is BB available, and the location is covered by the RBI build. This is about getting better connectivity than that for the town.

I believe Chorus have met their obligations to the area just fine.

I am sure a business understands how one is run etc and then the courier comparison comes back in.

Really i think you should get a quote from Chorus on how much it will cost to build it and see if your town can contribute a sum on money to assist with the upgrade. They might not accept that, They might.
If say it was $80,000 to upgrade the backhaul 300 people would have to chip in $266 each to afford it.

That way people have an option. Whether they want to chip in or expect things just happen like most of this country's population that's up to them.
Maybe pitch that.

Our taxpayer money is paying for UFB and RBI (DSL) upgrades yet we're outside those upgrade areas and if we choose to go to another type of service other than DSL we have to pay more of our own hard earned money or invest in a better solution for the community...

the same could be said about power. we pay more for power, but there are more frequent disconnections. i think part of the problem is that people in nz expect internet to be cheap, but available as frequently as power.

fortunately it's easier to have battery backup for internet than for normal power, so availability is often higher.

but if you look at the cost of power compared to the cost of internet, internet is cheaper.

the idea is meant to be that UFB/RBI improve new zealand's economy. i'm not quite sure how. so maybe it's worth putting it into terms of "lost profit"?

i do know that it's much easier to telecommute with reasonable level of internet, which can save time/petrol/etc.

I pay tax too and my money also goes to people in Jails. One inmate costs about $90,000 a year. (up from 60K in 2001)
I dont agree with it nor do i have any of my family benefiting from it.

Taxpayer money also goes to RBI wireless which is the solution in the vast majority of areas where RBI DSL is not being provided.

That's a very different case. If the power provider supplied 25V it would fail to meet the specs.

The Commerce Commission requirements for regulated Broadband are delivering 32kbps per user averaged over a 15 minute period. As I've posted hundreds of times before if you disagree with that the Commerce Commission are the people to approach.

I disagree. The money you spent to keep some people in prison makes society a better place - you definitely benefit from that.

you could just get an RBI connection for peak time and get a lowish cap (e.g. 15GB) and then keep your dsl connection for offpeak downloading. You've got decent offpeak speeds so queue up your downloads for then?

Thats the point. The taxes that the OP pays he says should go to his local cabinet too. He is paying those taxes to benefit the economy and others as much as himself. He has been directly affected too. He can get RBI wireless.
