Personally I think this will be hard to beat as the dumbest post of 2014. Congrats, it's only January.

Bahahaa adsl2 in Australia... funniest joke I heard in a while. Most high speed broadband there is cable. Very little adsl2+ or vdsl.

HAHAHA... most "high speed" broadband here is ADSL1!
Lucky there's cable in a few places. and you pay thru the nose for 30/1 or 100/2

Well, I am just an ordinary 30/10 fibre connectee (new word!) with free national calls and I am happy paying $75/mth. I just don't feel ripped off.

Whats more, in NZ you buy 10Mb/s upload speed and get it, the Australians are struggling to deliver upload speeds of 2Mb/s on 100Mb/s cable and as they only get ADSL1 the upload speeds are always as low as you can go and be broadband.

Klipspringer: Fast internet comes at a cost unfortunately. Overall NZ is very well placed when it comes to our broadband speeds.

IMO I think the costs are just right. What ISP's in NZ should look at doing though is implementing slower speed connections for those that think its too expensive. Ie, plans for like $29 per month, standard broadband 1.5Mbit/s.

Nah, then you get people coming here and complaining about why their internet is "slower than advertised" or "so slow"!

I used an Optus cable connection in melbourne that was 50/2 i think. It could speedtest that fast, but real world performance was shocking and typical of ADSL1 rates.

You [generally] have a choice of where you live though. Each area has it's pros and cons. For example, if you choose to live in Auckland, then property (purchase and rental) is going to cost you significantly more than the equivalent in a rural area. Broadband connectivity is the opposite - generally less expensive in an urban area. It's up to you to choose where you live, knowing the pros and cons of each area.

Wherever you live, some things will cost more, some will cost less.

Why do you feel ripped off? You've got internet faster than 97% of all Australians even if you're connected to a Conklin. Also, it's your choice to live rural, if you want faster internet then move :)

Faster than 97% of australians from a conklin has to be hyperbole. Those things are horrendous =/
But for anyone on newer RBI equipment, then your statement might be true!

My computer and browesr were too old and wouldn't work with the forum software (still doesn't with the "fancy" posting system), but I recently installed a newer, although still ancient, version of Mac OS X and browser. Plus, I forgot about it for a while and being on a dial-up connection means I only have a limited amount of time and too many places to visit. :-)

As for the topic, I was only posting what I read in today's newspaper.
