I just checked my speed using Xnet, 3819 kbps download, 505 kbps upload, which is about normal for me.

I live in Tokoroa about 4 km from the exchange and am using Telecom Home Total.

I have had no speed problems since the in-laws moved out !

I don't think I stated that "all corporate monopolies are bad". All I am saying is that the username anarkist suggests a rebel against the status quo, its a bit like George Bush having "Braniac" and Bill Clinton having "Virgin"!

I can blame the corporate monopoly - I have no access to wired broadband and I have a telephone service that would have been shamed in the 70's.

Back in the 70's you had to schedule international calls in advance. In ringbinders. I'm pretty sure we were still using the old pull out and plug in switchboards back then. IDK I'll have to talk to my mates who worked for Telecom/Post Office back then

When I said 70s I was using a fair sized chunk of sarcasm. Interestingly STD calls were introduced in 1976 with international calls following in 1979 - wordworx.co.nz

Anyway I think I may be trolling

Anarkist - I think you should change your name. Taking sides with a corporate monolopy is not very anarchistic!!!!!

I wonder what they call a female cat, I am sure nobody would complain. Blaming even the worst of providers before doing appropriate testing is not how normal people ask for help from experts, who might be interested in focusing on the problem.

Problems with phone lines can affect anything plugged into the line, so it is sensible to isolate the problem we are trying to solve even if not completely obvious. Sometimes jackpoints, faxes, SkyTV or the actual modem can also cause problems, along with phone line distance. If its slow, start by checking the modem ADSL stats to find out if its a line problem or something else.

Time to find a new industry!
