So timbo, what was the outcome of your meeting? I never did hear what happened there.

sbiddle: So Clare Curran is now telling everybody that the community agreed on their own community based solution. What exactly is it going to involve?

@sbiddle
So exactly where did she say that...?  Plus I hope you're not referring to me re "staunch rural people..." as I have stated a number of times here that I would and others I queried when doing the rounds for the petition would pay more but not much more.

@quickymart
Chorus, as expected, were a no show to our public meeting, they have indicated they would be happy with a private meeting which we will take them up on to hear what they have to say.  Vodafone unfortunately came down with the flue, shame.  On a positive note we had Unifone, CRS Communications, WIC and NetSpeed there.  We also had The Digital Office there which was a good voice to be heard.  Thank you to all that came.  While we discussed our issues and came up with some next steps there, of course, was no solution, that is to come.

We all know it is the Chorus network causing the congestion, we all know they are shaping their network which looking at some of the New UBA submissions they are not allowed to do.  We pay for FS/FS and they deliver less than that.  We all know the ComCom minimum service level was set before the 2007 STD document was agreed upon and is so out of date Chorus are just using the clause to their benefit, don't get me wrong, I understand their business position re this but do not agree with it and their actions are not gaining friends.

My petition has been received by the House of Representatives and I now have to provide a detailed submission to them.

Still moving along and more community interest as well.

Tim, Are you one of the guys that everyone says hi to in the town when seen on street?
I bet there will be stories told for generations not that of Batman but of Tim Gibson who saved the town from getting "left in the dark ages" :)
Good progress i must admit. Not sure who was expected from Vodafone. I surely wasnt paying for myself to get there :)
Chorus isnt shaping currently. More consider it the Harbor Bridge southbound at 8AM traffic. Flowing at 50Kph but still moving.

Mind quoting a source for Chorus not being allowed to dimension UBA to 75kbps?

@sbiddle
Thanks for actually being helpfull and posting a link to the post... yea mmm "endorsed" actually we have endorsed a community team to take this further as a group insted of just me.

The InternetNZ submission from their lawyers clause 1.2...
http://comcom.govt.nz/dmsdocument/12132

Just watched the Parlimentary replay of yesterdays Oral Questions re Rural Broadband, it always amuses me the rather childish way questiosn are answered in parliment to waste time... 7.6% uptake of UFB should be higher but until people see a need for faster speeds they won't change casuse it's good enough.  Sounded like just 2% have taken up the Wireless RBI, probably due to it being not family friendly.  But oddly 22.6% takeup on RBI DSL, thought that should be 100% because as a cabinet is upgraded all those connected automatically get swapped over.

And for fullness heres the TrueNet Rural Broadband page

Sadly it is. I still think a community fund raiser would be good. they probably only need 50k.

Why bother doing a community company when 4 WISPs turned up to their meeting?

But they dont want wireless solutions because they are expensive and have lower data caps. They want copper to work better. Even though its working well now.

It's become very clear the people aren't interested in solutions other than copper, despite these being available now (or can be deployed). They don't want to pay any more than what DSL costs for unlimited caps.

irony of this..

my parents line that i often speak about here, before the coil was removed off the DSL connection, we looked to go with a WISP  local (i wont name and shame them here.) they turned up, were looking to charge an arm and a leg (this was a fair few years ago now).

took note of the fact that we would be a prime place to target to deliver service to the whole Bethells Valley and seemed genuinely excited about it.

in the end, he said he had to go look into a few things, and we never heard back - despite Multiple Attempts to make contact.

the coils were removed a few moths later, and we enjoyed a solid 3.5/0.7 (up from the 64/64) for years on.

with crosstalk, deterioration of copper etc, that line is now 1~1.7/0.7.

looking at RBI maps, RBI would work there now however for the way the connection is used, RBI clearly is not an option. on the bright side, RBI DSL is due to roll out July 2014~june 2015! bringing coverage for VDSL into play.

While its clear, the cap is the limit in that household, that sort of load on RBI wireless would be pretty heavy.. and clearly not an option. if this connection was on a conklin, ild feel very sorry for anyone living near them..

an extreme case, but whats to say Timbo doesnt have someone like this living next to him?

From what I've heard from another source it was made quite clear at the meeting that price is a very real issue and people just want their xDSL fixed.

Is that not the case?
