Where's the knob that makes the upload speed as fast as LLU providers? :-(.

They're called 'thumbscrews' and you'd need to apply them to Telecom Wholesale... :)

I was thinking about that yesterday; why have the capped the upload? Maybe it creates too much crosstalk & affects the download speeds?

Yeah, I guess it's spectrum-management inclined.
Using swathes of bandwidth upstream will probably make a lot of far-end crosstalk (at the cabinet; 'far end' because destination=cabinet).
I suppose more people want to 133ch 1337 w4r3z than run seedboxes^H^H^H^HHigh Quality Telehousing Services.

Allan,

Its mainly for those who want a bit more speed at the cost of stability. VDSL does seem to hold lower SNR margins better.

Currently in the Fritzbox Web Interface you can change the SNRM and INP but only for stability. So this is handy if your line is not that stable. If you would like to increase your line speed at the cost of stability then you have to use the Telnet method.

Unfortunately it seems DLM does not work properly with any changes done to SNRM or INP so best to leave your line settings at default.

If you are not worried about latency but purely speed then by all means tune away.

Here is the Line settings page

So what does DLM actually do if you modify SNR etc?

Hmm, could we use that to our advantage? Say by locking the profile to DLM-1?

Yea it could. I would say this will need to be tested and confirmed.

I would test this but i am capped at 70Mb/s. If only that could be removed.

I have my SNR reduced (by more than half) since around 10 days, DLM is still working as it should for me since it has selected the 8ms interleaved profile instead of 1ms which has very significantly decreased the errors and increased my download and upload speed even further. Since I am not a gamer and only the throughput matters for me and my work, 8ms is really acceptable for me! Stability is the same, the router never lost synch because of the new SNR.
Next thing I would like to try is the automatic failover to UMTS for total peace of mind using a 3G stick, had anyone tried?

Do you mean the SNR on the 'DSL' tab or the 'Spectrum' tab?

I mean on the DSL tab, but on the spectrum tab the graph was updated accordingly (more bits are allocated to frequencies compared to before snr optimisation).

I have used another technique than does not require to enable telnet on the fritz router, if that is of interest I will also detail this on a future post.

Oh, so you manually reduced the SNR? I am very interested to see how you did that without using telnet! Did you also mention that you 'selected' the 8ms profile? How did you do that??

I'm interested. The more options on the table the better I say.

Max,

Are you talking about backing up the Fritzbox config file and then changing the SNR and then restoring it back to the Fritzbox?
