Your line seems to be stuck in limbo between the two.

17a on your line is no good, for it to preform like 8b does, higher power is required (which is kinda against the standard...) thus more errors are caused.

on a long line, it really should stick to 8b

depends alot on your CPE, Fritzbox for example seems to favour 17a and will shunt my line to 17a every time it plugs in. While my normal NF4V just rolls with what the DSLAM feels is best.

Looks like your connection is also jumping between 6dB and 9dB downstream attributes. This is all ddDLM doing it's work.

I would suspect there is something influencing your line that ddDLM is trying to mitigate.

You can't check that from your modem, but if you live in the following area then you're on RDB/M

The chart on p4 of the Chorus White Paper, indicates very little benefit of VDSL, vectoring or otherwise, at 1.9km. Even in our situation (1.5km, mainly rural line) vectoring seems to have a relatively small impact.

Having said that I am not certain how real the numbers are in that plot. Based on the White Paper numbers, our DS rate would be only ~20Mbs without vectoring. Our actual rate is typically ~27Mbs (33-34 'attainable') on 17a and ~25Mbs to 30+Mbs (33-38 'attainable') on 8b (another story).

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Is there a cabinet upgrade schedule available for areas beyond the pilot study area? I assume we are on RDB/M (anyway to determine that from our modem (DSL-AC56U)?

Bugger! Just seen that now. Is there any hope or upgrades coming for us who aren't lucky to live next to an exchange on the horizon?

linecard switching for Vectoring.

I'd agree though, If it's done in areas that enable are going to rollout very soon I'd say this is market targeted rather than aiming to improve the network itself.

maybe @chorusnz can explain the logic a little better though since i am a bit cynical (atleast until WAK/C is done ;) )

Exactly why i pull the cynical card and it seems pure marketing driven. EG capture the customers in the area that would be ripe pickings to move to fibre over the winter.

Great for you, Don't get me wrong...

IMO, these areas should be serviced with the older ikanos linecards which can manage a max of 70/30.

That is still a really good connection and is reusing hardware that otherwise is being replaced in other areas.

As far as I'm aware, in areas where Chorus isn't the LFC, they fully intend to deploy equipment to try and compete - this means that in future, theoretically we should see G.Fast technology anywhere LLU isn't happening and it's viable for deployment, and Chorus Fibre isn't an option (Most of the Waikato, Christchurch and Whangarei/Northland).

Makes sense from a marketing point of view, but in terms of targeting your customer base that is stuck on the network....

G.Fast etc is great, but low distance, and we already know how bad the MDF layouts can be for some alternatively close connections...

Business wise, yeah great. Who's gonna move if they are getting a solid 100/50 stable connection?...

I'm seeing a large number of FEC errors since a recent Chorus visit. Otherwise my stats appear to be reasonably good and DLM appears to be holding at these speeds. Any tips on troubleshooting this?
