We found this website ispreview a month or so ago it seems to have the most up to date list of all the current prices in the market, so we've kind of been using it as a gauge to see where we sit:

The Vodafone deal is good, but we think if you consider all the contracts, termination fees etc. of others... we're pretty competitive.

Global Mode is going to be interesting, basically we were thinking how could we be better / different to some of the other global modes out there. It's going to be an additional $10 a month but this is for a reason: We're basically going to dedicate a whole slice of bandwidth to this feature (which is expensive for us), but this means it will be premium streaming without all the lag you'll get on other Global Modes which are just in the same shared pool as all the other traffic. Does that make sense / sound like a good idea? At the end of the day we just thought as users ourselves we'd rather have good streaming than laggy streaming, and the only real way to ensure that is to slice off a portion of dedicated bandwidth which we then have to pay for somehow.

Tempted by the plans, $5 is $5. Vodafone only works out cheaper due to the discount I get from my on contract work phone. They don't offer as big a discount as they use to when they first started offering it. So will look at taking a plunge just need to find out my exact anniversary date before I make the switch. Plus their service and some comments they have made lately on forums have put me off.

Will stick with unotelly service for now, no lag and I pay around $30-$40 (cant remember the exact total) a year for that service. Possibly your global mode may appeal to other people that don't want to mess with changing DNS settings etc.

No this is absolutely no CG NAT, all connections receive a public IP address, but we can provide Static Public IP addresses for a one off setup fee.

talking to you via unlimitedinternet, signed up Wednesday, cut over Friday and running Saturday morning, had a wee issue with DNS, had to wait for Ben to be online, but once he was, all sorted (well sort of, a work around required) and off and running, so far so good!!!!

VoIP cut over as well, also working good.

Seems I was customer number One, reminds me of the early days of the internet again, but this time without the 9k6 modem......

I can sort of understand an ISP doing that on an unlimited plan. In this case I believe the founders of this unlimited ISP are also using bandwidth to provide other hosting services, so they they are effectively selling the same bandwidth twice. Or you could say someone else has already paid for it to hosting content (mainly uploading) and then the second time to end users at home (downloading). The model only works if they can keep the balance of upload and download similar.

Just been reading everyone's points and some fair concerns so just wanted to clarify a few things.

As for the hosting issue, this service is designed as a retail service with all you can eat data for home users. It's not really for 'advanced' uses like hosting your own website, as we state this is a best available service product, with no SLAs like you would have with a connection designed for these kind of activities. HOWEVER 99% of the time we're not going to disconnect you for hosting a few websites or games but that clause is actually to protect us from 2 things: People undertaking in activity which ends up slamming the network on a large scale or people expecting this to be an enterprise grade service for their hosting needs. It's just really to show that at this price point this isn't actually what it's designed to be used for.

We have a datacentre for hosting, and for $100 a month you can get all inclusive hosting and colo for dedicated servers if you want to do it properly?

Also we're not selling the same bandwidth twice as we've put the Unlimited Internet IP ranges on a new pool of bandwidth which is completely different to any of the HD datacentre stuff.

So despite how it may appear from a pure price perspective, this bandwidth isn't outlet mall left over (or twice-sold) bandwidth, but actually a whole pool of CIR with very little contention.

And Nic very glad to have you on the network! Please enjoy the service and don't be afraid to call if you ever need anything else fixed.

I know you have a datacentre but your competitors have one too and they don't stick in 90s-esque "no servers" clauses. This is Geekzone, you should expect people here to want to do more with their internet connection than watch youtube and email pictures of cats to their friends.

If you really don't want people to hammer your outbound bandwidth, shape their traffic, or define limits in your T&Cs. Don't add random "well they might do this and it would be bad" clauses to your T&Cs. You'll end up having to deal with people whose usage causes you trouble but who don't fit into your predefined "bad" categories. Like *cough* the time I melted my Auckland-based VPS provider (sorry!) by seeing if we could really get 100Mbps through my neighbour's new Vodafone cable modem...

You are right in some respects, it is there for the protection of others, but admittedly the wording is currently more heavy handed than it needs to be for all users. I've talked to Ben and we're going to review it and see if we can structure it / refine it better so that we are only targeting specifically the extreme users we want to protect the network from.

At the end of the day that's our real aim (to ensure a quality service), rather than locking out any 'normal' users, so yeah we will review it and let people know of updates.

We've updated the terms:
"Even if you are utilising our Static Ip service, Unlimited Internet connections are not intended for hosting publicly accessible sites or services.
If you wish to run ISP/Wireless services backhauled by our broadband, then we require you to purchase your own subnet IP range (framed-IP) and bandwidth pool.
Using an Unlimited Internet broadband connection to host publicly accessible sites or services is considered a breach of these terms, as such if you cause interruption of service on Unlimited Internet’s (or it’s upstream providers) networks, you will be held liable for the costs associated, including, but not limited to, reparation to affected customers and costs of restoration."

to:

"Even if you are utilising our Static Ip service, Unlimited Internet connections are intended for general residential use and as such are not intended to be used for large scale hosting of publicly accessible content.
In order to protect other users on the network and our upstream providers, Unlimited Internet reserves the right to limit, via traffic management systems, any connection which we deem to be using an extreme and unusually heavy amount of bandwidth, at our sole discretion.
If you wish to run ISP/Wireless services backhauled by our broadband, then we require you to purchase your own subnet IP range (framed-IP) and bandwidth pool from one of our parent wholesale companies."

Hopefully this amendment addresses some of the concerns about our (admittedly heavy handed) previous terms.
