As much as I am repulsed by their sales-peoples lack of ethics, the speed and reliability of their internet seemed fine. I am on 30/100 fibre. Never noticed slow downs etc. Didn't seem to be any throttling of torrents etc. I know most ISP's claim not to throttle, but some seem to have more aggressive "prioritisation" than trust power.

Thanks. So far i haven't found any reason not to go ahead. Their sales tactics aside, it sounds like a good deal. And the comments I've found about their speeds have all been ok.

Do i need a new TV? Nope. But hey, i'll have a cheaper power bill.

Depending on where you're based Trustpower has one of the most expensive power deals out there. Also, their broadband isn't that good.

Personally, I'd rather go with a better ISP like 2degrees, a power provider like Electric Kiwi or Flick and put the actual savings aside for a TV or device you actually want.

Have you checked the Whatsmynumber web site? Trustpower ranks about 20th in Auckland.

I knew I was signing up for slightly more expensive power, but the discounted internet made it worth while. Amongst other things, they hid the cost of cancelling the contract early. Their headline and verbally stated figure was at the time $200 but hidden in the fine print and not mentioned when I verbally asked about it was an additional charge of $59 per month and they also insisted on a $600 break charge for a fictitious fibre install. They were adamant their records showed they had installed fibre, but I'd had fibre for 2 years before even signing up with them.

Also check yourself (don't let anyone else check for you) that you are not still under contract with your existing power company and ISP. Their salesman "checked" and said I was good to change. It was a lie and I ended up being charged early termination fees by my former power company. It wasn't until my old power company called to ask if I realised I was still under contract with them that I started to find out that was getting taken for a ride. The 10 day cooling off period had lapsed and Trustpower wouldn't even let me push out the commencement date of their contract and threatened me with all the B.S. $600 fibre fees and $59/month fees. It was cheaper to pay out my former power company than pay Trustpower to not commence service with them.
