reven: im on snap and use about 1TB of data a month (mostly steam downloads, probably 200gb of netflix).

would this put me in the high end user category and shape my data?   snap i get great speeds, and wouldnt want to sacrifice that.

Hi,

No 1TB wouldn't be a problem at all. If you were constantly maxing out your DSL line and using say 10TB a month or more that would be considered slightly excessive (the exception being something like 100/50 UFB where you could do more no problem)

DrCheese: My internet access is through HD (your parent company) and I've been trying to get IPv6 for the last two years from the them. Are you sure you can offer this through your company?

David.

Hi David,
Currently IPv6 is offered across our datacentre products but we're looking at moving it to DSL services as well, which would then include UI as well as HD.

Cheers,
Sam

Hi!  Welcome to Geekzone.

Yes please pass our thanks on to the Spark marketing team (which I assume is quite substantial) for the great ideas.

If we were allowed in the building we'd buy them all a coffee :)

actually Bigpipe marketing is 2 people (and they do other stuff too), so your coffee bill will be pretty cheap.

We operate totally separately to Spark. - separate network, separate people, separate billing systems etc etc.

I find that quite interesting.
I would have thought that the savings on things like churn fees with customers switching between spark and bigpipe would mean a simple front end would be all that is needed.

What is the relationship between home broadband services of HD and unlimitedinternet?

I'm currently with HD.net and basically wondering if I switch:

If systems are shared is there any chance of avoiding the connection fee?

Will my connections performance be better/worse/or exactly the same?

I'm considering these 3 options:
BigPipe: $89x6months-$89 (first month free) = 445
Unlimited: $89x6months+49 (connection fee) = 499
Stick with HD (capped): $88.25x6months = 529.5

We pick up very few customers direct from Spark (and lose very few to spark), the target demographic is very different to the typical spark customer.

(that's kinda the point really - launching a sub-brand to target the same people as your main brand is dumb)

I'm one of the customers that Bigpipe picked up from Spark (Telecom at the time).  I was only with Telecom because of the unlimited data that came with Tivo so I guess I never was a "typical" Telecom customer.

well transfer from Snap to Unlimited Interenet went smoothly yesterday.   Quick call to their tech support for modem settings (I can never rememeber PPPoA/E etc setting to use, their website should say this as my fritzbox was set to default to vdsl not adsl).

but other than was fine.  was watching a single 1080p stream of netflix last night without issue, report back in a couple of weeks once i give it a proper run for its money.

cant wait to give their geoblocking stuff a go.  I havent got a static ip address anymore (seeing how often i get disconnect to warrant one), if geoblocking works well and ill ditch unotelly probably (as long as it support netflix US, vudu + bbc iplayer)

Unfortunately there is no network or systems relationship between HD and Unlimited Internet; as its run through NGW which has an independent network. The back end systems are also completely independent from each other.

If you are really interested though, get in touch with us so we can have a chat and see if we can sweeten up the deal for you a bit.

tkr001: You charge people before they are connected? On that basis alone you will never get me as a customer and I am sure I am not alone on that front.

You may wish to review this if it in fact what you do.

Paradise net used to do that for dialup customers back in the day.  I hear it reduces trouble with people not paying bills.

Snap do this for their connections. But im sure that the "counter" only starts when your connection goes live. Not 100% sure as it was only 1 week between me ordering UFB, (new install). And the connection going live.

Is global mode still happening? The "Coming soon" message seems to have gone missing form your web site.
