Hi Folks

I have posted before regarding slow broadband.  We are connected to one of those older style cabinets that can give a d/l speed of 5mbs early morning but evenings down to 0.5mb (6-11pm).   I have spoken to Chorus and they said there is no plans to upgrade the cabinet.

So I asked how much to upgrade the cabinet.  They gave me an approx price of 60k.  What would I get for the 60k? VDSL?   Any ideas as Chorus are quite slow on their response time.  The cabinet is about 200-300m from the house.

I also note there is a fibre cabinet 7km from the house (RBI).   Would they have to connect my cabinet to the fibre one?

The cabinet name I am connected to is GLT/E.

The GLT/E cabinet has been upgraded with an ISAM and has fibre backhaul.  Folks living within 600-900 metres from the cabinet will be able to get VDSL, those within 2000-2400 metres (approx.) can expect ADSL2.  Those further away will get ADSL1 service.

If you are on the GLT/E cabinet and seven kilometres away from the DSLAM there is little that we can do in the way of upgrading the existing site that would make any improvement.

You would have to look at funding the extension of the fibre backhaul closer to your premises and fund the installation of a new DSLAM closer to you & your neighbours.

Please PM me your address & I can confirm you are on this cabinet.
