Hi,

I've finally decided on using MikroTik for NZ UFB solutions.

The model I have here is RB951Ui-2HnD, but since Miktrotik all runs on routerOS I am guessing the setup should be similar on different models.

I am completely new to routerOS and I want to use this router as a basic CPE. Can any share some step by step knowledge as how to setup RouterOS from out of box (default) with NZ UFB. The ISPs I am with are Orcon and 2talk.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

If this is your first time with RouterOS I would suggest letting it load the default configuration.
Defaults will set the LAN subnet, put on a DHCP server, set up NAT & firewalling and put a DHCP client on on ether1 for WAN.

After it has done that it is just a case of removing the DHCP client on ether1, adding a VLAN (ID of 10 specifically)interface to ether1 and then put a DHCP client back on the VLAN interface. I think for Orcon you may have to spoof the MAC address too but I'm not sure.
Then it just a simple change on the NAT masquerade rule to go to the new interface and put in a new drop rule for your firewall (to stop stuff from the internet coming in).

After that you will have internet connectivity and can screw around to your hearts content with RouterOS.

I should probably say to that you will want to upgrade to 6.13 because you can guarantee it won't have shipped with that. Netinstall is a quick, easy way to do this.
