I was at a second hand building supplies business today and happened to spot a Chorus ONT exactly like this one:

ONT

sitting on the counter. It had likely been removed from a to be demolished building.

Some keen DIYer might buy it thinking they'll get UFB on the cheap? I don't know.

I doubt Chorus would approve.

vexxxboy: i have one installed and at no time was i told that it wasnt mine and not to remove it . The only way i knew was reading it here , what about the average citizen who would have no idea.

If you signed the concent to install (which you must have to get an installation)  then you should have read it,  as it plainly says the equipement isnt yours and remains the property of Chorus. It is repeated in several sections but this snipped section of the form below is the main copy

Dabble: Was the power supply there? Chorus charge heaps for them!

Not that I saw it. But there was a lot of junk on the counter.

How much do they charge?
They charge for a complete ont ~$249 if a PSU goes missing

but if the PSU fails do they replace it free as it's 'their' property anyway?

If the ONT or the ONT's PSU fails, due to a hardware failure (and not some other homeowner cause, i.e tipping water all over it, or dog eating it) then yes, we replace it :)
