My wife and I are looking at buying a section in Central Otago which the developer tells me will have fibre installed (no copper phone lines at all). There is no UFB in any other parts of this town currently so this will be the first installation. Just wanting to check that this is the new standard way for subdivisons to get made? He said he got Chorus in to lay the fibre. I presume it is just terminated back to the nearest cabinet and will be capable of UFB to any house in the subdivision?

For me this is a major buying point and just want to ensure there are no pitfalls I need to be aware of. I remember reading about other people being caught out 2-3 years ago in new subdivisions having limited choice for broadband providers and getting screwed because one company had sole rights to that subdivision (or do I have my wires crossed?)
