Hello forum, so i'm writing this at 4:37 am where my wonderful spark broadband is giving me a 112kb/s Down, 600-900 ping and a 50kb/s Up.

Now ive lived out here for a couple of years and never really got i guess "use" to the whole rural very slow internet thing as I am an avid online gamer and use the internet to make a living.

So crazily i was actually getting up at times like 2am/3am where speeds would be decent enough to do things online: 66 ping, 400kb/s Down, 50kb/s down (internet is pretty much unusable all day unless these times).

However for the last month or so this hasnt been enough as even at these times, speeds are the same as during the day (I guess more people have started to wake up at these times?)

Chorus told us at the start of the year we'd be getting fibre sometime next year, however we are right out at the beach (before the last bridge opposite tasmine view road (160-200 Bethells road_ )) and i doubt this is going to happen due to how far out we are.

However is there any plans for any upgrade of sorts to give us internet out here which isnt this slow? I looked into RBI and am not sure if we're covered however is there anything else that maybe is happening in the future? Wireless options (farmside etc) aren't an option unfortunetly.

Just wondering if We'll ever get stable, fast internet where the ping would stay under 100 all day lol. Anyone care to shed some light? Much appreciated, thanks.

The WAK/J cabinet has copper backhaul - there is no fibre to Bethells Beach.  With the number of users on this cabinet and the limited backhaul there is congestion in the  backhaul link.

Once the WAK/B cabinet (at the end of Te Henga Road) is upgraded, (due in the next 6 months) the fibre will be 4 km's closer to Bethells Beach.  That still leaves a five kilometre gap to fill.

The cost of the WAK/J cabinet upgrade is in the order of $400,000 (including the 5 km fibre build).

With the funding challenge we face, there is no plan for Chorus to upgrade this cabinet.

regards
