We have a granny flat, and would like to have a separate fibre connection (and account) to the granny flat.
Fibre to the gate has recently been installed (plans are not available yet).

Is it possible to split the single fibre to both the house and granny flat? (Separate connections)
Would they need to run another fibre to the gate or could we split the single fibre?
Would there be a huge install cost?

We are in East Chch, eventually the house will be demolished and rebuilt and we would like the granny flat to be stand alone.

Answer:

I spoke with Enable the other day...

The first fibre connection to a property is free, the second is fully chargeable (the network has allowance for this situation)

They will install an ONT (optical network terminal) into the granny flat, which can take 3 separate internet connections from different ISP’s.

Eventually if the house also wants fibre we will need to pay for the connection, but there is an existing Ethernet cable going between the house and sleepout, so they should be able to just plug that cable into the ONT, and install the modem in the house (with a small connection fee).

The other option was to have another fibre installed, but again the second connection is at full cost ($200 - $1000's)
