I have a longer than average street frontage.  

 

OCL have commenced digging up the verges to install fiber. But the hole they have dug for us is at the other end of the section from our house, which is quite a distance.

 

Does this mean the house connection will run from there or can it be hooked in anywhere as it runs past our section?

In the Chorus UFB build the lateral extension from the road duct to the boundary is buried near to the existing copper service terminal and rather than being left in a green pedestal (as was common at the start of the project) we now leave the lateral duct in the ground and place a marker peg at the spot once the hole is filled.

 

This is done this way for a couple of reasons;

 

1.  It is easier to find months/years later when install team need to find it

 

2. Most terminals are located on a shared boundary, so there are two tubes left there, one for you & one for your neighbour - only one hole to dig to install from communal duct to the boundary.

 

3.  If it is an underground connection from the boundary to the house the existing 20mm duct from the copper terminal can potentially be re-used to pull the fibre lead-in through, avoiding the need to trench through the garden

 

4. The fibre needs to go to the same place on the outside of the house where the existing copper is terminated if the internal wiring is to be reused for landline voice service delivery to existing phone sockets in the house.
