Hi guys.

First of all this is my first post in the forum and very pleased to be here!

I am looking for a bit of help if possible due to my lack of understanding. A few weeks ago my dial tone on my home phone was lost. My internet connection also went down with it. I left it as I was due to travel overseas the next day and did not have time to phone through a fault. I rang the phone a couple of times while I was overseas and it did not ring, however when I got home I tired it again just out of curiosity. When I rang the landline from my cell it rang in my ear but the landline did not ring.

I rang Vodafone who stated they would dispatch a tech (to the exchange I guess as no-one came to my house)and dismissed the idea there could be a fault at my end. Within an hour the internet was back on. 24 hours later my dial tone returned.

Now I am a curious type so I rang Vodafone to find out what the fault was. The person on the end of the line did not really tell me anything at all but assured me the issue had been fixed. I just want to know what the problem could have potentially have been? This has never happened before and the drop out was quite sudden. Any ideas?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot :)

Tom.

RunningMan:

A broken or corroded joint on the line somewhere is most likely.

While this is the most likely cause misjumpering would follow not far behind.

Years ago there used to be people to do the dusting and polishing and generally keeping the exchange wiring frames tidy. By now some of the jumpering must look like a bird's nest. Working on one wire can dislodge another.
