Hello all,

so I had a somewhat unsatisfying switch from Slingshot ADSL to Bigpipe VDSL.

It turned out that I have a very long line, and my ADSL speeds are better than VDSL ones. So I switched back to ADSL with Bigpipe.

Here are my questions:

  • Is there a DLM on ADSL, or is this something VDSL specific?
  • I'm getting about 30% better sync speed with Slingshot comparing what I'm having now with Bigpipe as per these screenshots:

Slingshot:

Bigpipe:

I'm considering going back to Slingshot. I'm hoping that since Slingshot is using UCLL and Bigpipe is using Chorus, this difference is due to equipment.

My question is, is it likely, if I go back to Slingshot, that I'll get my sync rate up again?

Thank you in advance!

BarTender: DLM is coming to ADSL. Chorus have been talking about it. I suspect by early next year.

But for the moment it's just if you are on Chorus or a UCLL as per the above posts.

i didnt know that fact was public yet. Good to know!

Most definitely is a case of UCLL compared to wholesale.

Personally in your situation i would meet midway, Move back to UCLL and go annex M.

Detruire: Annex M sacrifices downstream rate for upstream rate, so that may not be what OP is after.

As stated, as a midway personally i would go for it.

Then you get the jump in upstream, and a bit of a jump back up in downstream. Ild conservatively estimate 15/2 wouldnt be unreasonable to see.

What does that mean, go annex M? How does one do this?

annex M is a modulation that uses some of the downstream band to offer a faster upstream.

Upstream congestion is often the biggest issue faced on adsl, a good 10+mbit down can easily congest 1mbit up in acks alone.

The option will be within your routers menu, Annex M is not supported on wholesale gear.

Slingshot should do a 6dB SNR profile on UCLL, if your not on that i would switch to it (assuming you have a master filter installed to reduce risk of errors causing instability)

Generally i would not support going with any medium which adds to crosstalk (which annex M does) but in this situation i am certainly a supporter of it.
