I signed up for Ultra VDSL from Spark in 2014 and when we first got it - it was fantastic, 50 odd megabit down and 10 up.
Ive watch the sync rate slowly go down and down and now its at 9 megabit down... to the point where before i could stream 4k fine but now i sometimes have issues with even Spotify.
We live in a semi rural area - and a number of new houses have been built recently which seems to have coincided with the big drop.

Just wondered if theres anything I can do? I feel like theyre over selling the number of connections on the cabinet or something which has resulted in a much poorer service.
Would it make any difference if I switched providers or is it just a connections per cabinet issue?
Id kill for Fibre but looks like its a long way off in our location in Kapiti.

Any advice appreciated. Ive checked the chorus broadband checker and where it used to say something like current connection 50 mbit it now says 14 megabit.

I have so far - called Spark to get the line checked - nothing wring they said and just did a resync.
Ive tried upgrading the firmware on the huawei modem, have tried rebooting it a few times to see if it would make any difference etc.
I do  fair bit of work from home and it's getting more painful. I am considering adding a 4G wireless connection if it gets any worse.
any advice or suggestions appreciated.

cheers

Something is afoot with your downstream connection, shouldn't be less than your upstream which is not bad for the attenuation you are getting
Downstream attenuation is quite high which would normally mean long distance from cabinet, but your download speed means you are within 1km

Semi-rural are you on a long driveway ?
Something may have happened to cable to house
Check where cable comes out of ground (or off pole) into little white box
Spiders and other crawlies may have had a field day in here
There should ideally be a master splitter in here that separates the Phone from Broadband (unless you're on Naked then remove)
Check internal house wiring, remove all wall plugs and diagnose if you have phones, faxes etc plugged in.
