Hi all,

My dad was tidying up the cables in his structured cabling box and in the process he gently moved the twisted cable pairs coming from his dsl splitter (he literally just moved them 1cm to the left). Since then his sync speeds have dropped from ~14mbit to:

Upstream line rate (kbit/s):
391
Downstream line rate (kbit/s):
1420
Upstream line attenuation (dB):
49.5
Downstream line attenuation (dB):
40.5

i.e. a pretty massive drop - clearly there is an issue somewhere.

See the attached for a picture of the splitter and the cables.

I suspect he has probably caused one of the punch connections to fail.

Should we simply remove the cables from the voice hub and then re push them in? we don't have the proper tool, so would be using a small screw driver tip to push them through. Is this advisable or not really?

Also, see attach for the voice hub/splitter product guide (we have the vdsl splitter) - is the green and green/white wire in the above pic from DSL to Line2 (the very bottom connection) correct? I can't see this step on the instruction sheet, and I'm curious as to why it is here, I think its possibly an error?

Prior to this sudden drop in speed I suspected that something was wrong with the splitter/wiring as with no (usually 2) phones plugged in the adsl sync speed increased to 20mbit... I thought the splitter seperated the dsl and phone lines? Could the extra cable mentioned above be contributing ?

Thanks heaps for your help.

Thanks for your help. We removed the extra unnecessary green and green/white cable to line 2. In the process we saw that the green cable to the dsl connection had in fact broken just before the connection so we reinserted it and now the line is working correctly - the speed increased to 19mbit
