Knock knock... no not a joke but a Chorus rep. OK maybe a joke.

This was some weeks ago and the spiel from the door to door salesman went like this...

Chorus is offering to run fibre from the edge of your section to your house. It won't disrupt your current internet connection, but you will be able to connect to UFB when ever you want and there is no cost.

Cool I said, sounds like a good idea. I haven't had UFB installed as the house isn't networked yet, I haven't decided where I want the network cabinet and I will need to complete that before anything is installed in the house.

Rep said that wouldn't be a problem.

Turns out it was.

Installers turn up today. I pointed out where the current copper entered the house and where I thought the conduit ran. I was then asked where I wanted the modem in the house.

Installers drove off.

Woman from Chorus HQ rang an hour later to inform me that the installation had been cancelled at my request. I said I'd figured that out when the installers drove off, though they didn't actually tell me that. I also pointed out the above to her but she was completely disinterested.

Wasted afternoon

LOL@Chorus.

Hi there,

First off, we'd like to confirm this is not a scam, we have active Chorus reps who are visiting homes to bring Fibre to your premises as part of our infrastructure upgrade.

We'll bring the Fibre from the road all the way up to the installation of the ONT. During this process you'll go through a scope meeting to agree on where the build and connect will take place, as well as agreeing to end user terms before any work begins. This is where you'd agree to the placement of your ONT.

At that point you'd contact your broadband provider to request to connect to services when you're ready.

The fact that the installers just drove off and the install was cancelled is really concerning and we do apologise for the inconvenience caused. We'd like to take a look at your request in more detail to find out exactly why this has happened, provide feedback to the techs in question and make sure there are no more issues with this process moving forward. Are you able to send us a private message with your address?

Cheers,

Sara.
