Has anyone heard of Chorus techs coming back once a Fibre install has been completed?

A family member got Fibre installed, and the tech call a few weeks later saying he needs to come back and move the ETP outside about 50cm to the right, because it's too close to the house's gas line. He said it's part of the regulations/code so he has to do it - presumably trying to cover up a mistake if it's a legal requirement.

Is it just me or does this seem bizarre? Fibre isn't electrically live so presumably it's proximity to a gas line shouldn't be a problem right?

Any opinions are my own and do not represent those of 2degrees

There is a requirement to make sure the ETP is a minimum distance from a gas source, as far as I know this is to prevent infiltration of gas into the network (which is largely ducted underground) in the event of a leak. Gas could also infiltrate your house if the FTP is in poor condition.
Imagine some poor tech unwittingly jumping into a pit full of LPG some where.
Your installer probably got pinged by quality control. Make sure they do a tidy job of the relocation.
