Hi there

I recently acquired a new laptop, and installed Skype. When I tried to log in using my Skype username and what I thought was my password, I couldn't log in (said to check my Skype Name and Password). As I wasn't sure the password I was using was correct, I went through the instructions that I thought would change the password. I know the Skype Name is correct, from looking at my old laptop (which was set up to sign in automatically when I opened Skype).

I ended up logging into my Microsoft account and changing that password -- when I use that password for my Skype Name it doesn't work. Now I go to www.skype.com and see if I can change it there... I enter my email address (accepts it) -- thinking I'll be sent an email helping me to change my Skype password I'm directed back to Microsoft's Live website, which is where I was directed when I first tried to change my Skype password.

When I open Skype and try and sign in using my Microsoft account and password, it asks me to associate a Skype account with it. However when prompted to enter the Skype username and password, I get no where (either invalid Name or Password, or both message).

How can I change my Skype password (as opposed to Microsoft account password) so I can log into Skype?

What a task! I thought it would be so simple....

Any help much appreciated.

Stevie

Hi - have you checked you have the latest version of skype? I would suggest downloading it from the skype website and installing. I have had two people come to me with a similar problem of none of their usernames or passwords were being accepted in the application but they were working on the website - both were fixed with downloading and installing the updated skype client.

Yeah try that.  This has happened to me before.  I had to download it from the Skype website, when I clicked 'check for updates' it said it was the latest but it wasn't.

It's a very annoying bug that I've experienced a couple of times myself, and I know others who have experienced the same problem.

I'm really not a fan of Skype but it's what everyone is using.
