Just scored a pretty decent deal on a Phenom quad and need some advice on how things will run after its installed. I have no worries about the actual install, what I need to know is will I need to reinstall windows afterwards or any other programme for that matter? I have windows 7 plus a few others installed on the raptor HD and eveything else on another HD. Also the Phenom is second hand(6mths old) will I have to clean it up if its still got "crud" on it..whats the best method for this, thinking of cleaning up the old dual core to wack on trade me as well. cheers
Ha this is weird now looks like its possible with rev 1, the phenom II x4 940 used to be listed as supported by my mobo revision with BIOS F7F which is no longer on the gigabyte site . Just found reports of people running this CPU on the rev 1 and everything fine. I'lll let you know things pan out
really? my AM2 (minus the plus) mobo can run a phenom??!!
sorry but i dont think i'm actually hijacking - but anyone knows if there is severe disadvantage/limitation of running phenom on an AM2 (minus the plus) mobo?
Joker are you running the same board as me- Gigabyte MA-770DS3 rev 1?, this supports AM2+ as well, according to the box. Link below is someone running rev 1 and the 940,read the last post
edit: Just installed the phenom, was running hot first off idled at 60c,73c under 40-60% load. So quickly checked and re-applied thermal paste and updated bios from F7 to F8F. Temps dropped sraight away 42c idle, 50c under 40-60%
Whats the best way to test your cpu? I'd like to see the temps at 100% load, the last owner reckoned it was only doing 45c at 100% with stock heatsink and fan.I need something that will stay on top whilst I play a game or something. Read a lot of people having extremes with the temp on this cpu.
