As with most people, I am always forgetting passwords for various sites. 

Short of carrying around post it notes, tying string around fingers, can anyone recommend a 'password keeper' type programme?  Maybe something that can run direct off a USB key or similar?

pwkeeper.com seems to be another... theres quite a few paid ones too.. (trying to avoid those lol)

I have used Password safe for a few years now. Free and works a treat.

I like that it does autotype (press a button and it fills in user name an password) for you. Does not work of every site but 90+%

I use KeePass. I like a lot of its features including the auto type, the password generator, etc.

I'm now using keepass.

Do you use both a password and a key file? If so, what are your recommendations for the key file location? (I'm using portable version on a USB drive).

You need both password and keyfile to open the database, so I guess having the key anywhere else other than the usb keychain would make it useless if you were unable to lay your hands on the keyfile when you need to get in?

Keepass PLUS Dropbox.

It's a match MADE in Heaven. Seriously.

My passwords are always sync'd at home or at work.

I only discovered this a few weeks back. But it means I no longer have to keep a "master" USB drive and have 5 different versions of my keepass Database around.




Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

It's not quite a password safe but for website passwords I use passwordmaker, you can have 1 or more master passwords that then generates a hash based on the master password & the URL. You can have different rules for sites and have the config file auto sync if you're using multiple computers/browsers. I mainly use it as a Firefox extension but there's also plugins for IE and Chrome, as well as a Windows and Javascript app.

I also use the open source PasswordSafe for server passwords, I've found it to be pretty good.

keepass for me too. It works great and has an android app. I just use a master password.

I've just started using keypass with the DB held on an SVN server at home...
and a trigger set up to say when I open download from the SVN server, and when I save, commit back to the svn server.

Wouldn't mind getting that functionality built in, and hoping that I can use the SVN direct url link for when I get an iphone to download the same DB.
