No current specs to worry about for me - i'd be buying a 3080-ready system from scratch, maybe sans gfx card and insert a used one.

Hmm. Still waiting to hear from Computer Lounge on a timeline for my card... it was "in stock" when I bought it, but later got an email saying thanks for the backorder.

Same here. In stock at 0115 on launch day, but email stating backorder with no timeline. Being really opaque with expectation when contacting support.

"We will be receiving weekly consignments and allocate accordingly" doesn't really give much information.

Hi Labrakadabrador

I didn't order my card untill around mid morning from Computer Lounge.I was thinking about phoning up and asking for some more info.I guess the next shipment will be for you guys that ordered early and are further up the queue.Did you see some of the comments online today about some of the MSI 3080s and others crashing .With a bit of luck they might have all the wrinkles ironed out before ours arrive .

I'm looking for someone with a 20 series or 30 :-) to run a quick TEST on a specific piece of software.

It will take  no longer than 5 mins total.

PM me if  you can help

I heard guesses the 3090 was going to be around $2500 here.  Not that I'd buy at that price either haha. The Aus price will be of interest to see if we are getting a fair deal.

PB Tech say my 3080 will ship on 2nd October -- anyone's guess as to whether that will happen .

In the meanwhile, I'm thinking a new case may be in order as the 3080 is 4cm longer than my 2070.  I checked the case last night, and I estimate I have 4 cm spare so it could be tight .

3090 seems to be a negligible performance increase over 3080 for gaming. But for video and graphics professionals it's a significant boost for their apps.

I heard guesses the 3090 was going to be around $2500 here.

The $2500 figure came from Nvidia's Australian website, which included Aussie GST. Unfortunately Nvidia then decided not to sell FE cards in this region so that figure became meaningless as the AIB cards are always a few hundred Dollars more.

However I didn't expect $600 to $1100 more, if Computer Lounge's prices are correct. They're selling cards for up to $3600.

Interesting article from Igor's Lab discussing possible reasons why 3080 cards are crashing at certain boost clock rates.

Link here

A few issues around capacitators companies are using in their cards; POSCAPSs vs. MLCCs.

JayzTwoCents also has a video discussing this issue.

Cards with the worst reports of crashes tend to have six cheap POSCAPs rather than a mixture of say, 1 or 2 MLCC + 4 or 5 POSCAPs.
Gigabyte & Colourful (Pre-public release?) = 6 POSCAPs

Oof. I've been reading more and more about this through the day. Very concerning as a potential Gigabyte Gaming OC recipient. Not really what you want to be hearing after dropping $1600 on a card.

This might actually cause me to cancel my backorder for that card and just hop to the back of a TUF 3080 queue. I'd now rather hold off and wait for this all to get sorted than to receive a dud card earlier.

Almost all the models have reported problems. Some less than others though.

Big Navi is looking quite competitive with today's leaks, might turn out to be a really good 3080 competitor with 6GB more VRAM. Nvidia will certainly respond with the 3080 20GB so I'm glad I held on to my 2080Ti, I guess I'll wait till November......

+1 to wait for AMD

As per u/Crushkill above, these cards are also being proven to crash at higher clock rates. Appears more a driver issue than anything. I'll hold onto my backorder for my gaming OC and monitor the situation I think, rather than jumping ship

Have you already paid for your backorder?  I wonder how willing retailers would be to cancel paid backorders?

Aren't they saying this is a hardware issue? With the capacitors?

If a driver update reverses the OC performance gain, then , you are not getting what you paid for.
