They will most likely cripple the cards so they don't auto OC as much so the hardware can cope, on a positive note tho.... will use less power and produce less heat :)

@surfisup1000 jays2cent commented that u r getting what paid for it's written on the box, it's just that it's not guaranteed that will go higher than that. Which is technically right.

When you get to my age, Cougar's are not appealing.

As per u/Crushkill above, these cards are also being proven to crash at higher clock rates. Appears more a driver issue than anything. I'll hold onto my backorder for my gaming OC and monitor the situation I think, rather than jumping ship

Have you already paid for your backorder?  I wonder how willing retailers would be to cancel paid backorders?

Aren't they saying this is a hardware issue? With the capacitors?

If a driver update reverses the OC performance gain, then , you are not getting what you paid for.

I think there are several factors in play. Capacitors could be one, but the fact that those cards using MLCC capacitors are also probe to crashes shows its not JUST the capacitors.

Likely multifactorial and a lot more work to be done to understand the root cause.

Also as the issue is only over 2000mhz then actually the card manufacturers wouldn't really have to cover anything. My cards quoted clock is 1850 (I think) so if they curb it to 1950 to stop the issue it's still working well within the advertised spec.

Not ideal but I'll still be getting the performance I expected if that's the case. Obviously I can't speak for the card manufacturers but that's what I'd predict

Yes, I suspect you are right. eg, gigabyte eagle (the one I ordered), has the worst case scenario of 6 poscaps but does not have widespread reports of crashing .

I'm just wondering, will pbtech allow orders to be canceled? For me, it just might be better to wait until the issues are resolved.

I'm with computer lounge, so wouldn't be able to comment, probably best to ask PB tech. I don't see any reason why a retailer wouldn't let you cancel though.

They do. Mate of mine cancelled his order and they are processing a refund. No harm in waiting to see what AMD come up with - and how nvidia respond - either.

Bloody PB Tech... I had a feeling they were quoting unrealistic Est. Shipping Dates just to secure orders...

Don't think it;'s right for them to keep my money for all this time...

Ouch. That's some delay.

I must say though I'd rather be in the boat of having an ETA than with Computer Lounge who are absolutely refusing to give specific ETAs at present.

Cancel your order. It's not like they are the only retailer in this position though.

I agree somewhat but I woiuld have preferred no ETA  or at least an honest one.. In both cases, I wouldn't have spend $1.5k and waited until things settled a bit more.

Picked up a 3080 this weekend from Computer Lounge however it was part of a pre made system (birthday present to myself as my old gaming pc was 5 years old).  Overall very happy, big step up from the 1070 in the old machine.

Now if only i could work out how to redeem the free watchdogs game lol.

Yeah, definitely. Looks like even PBTech has stopped taking orders on some models... that probably says a lot...

Out of interest when did you order that system? It does smart that 3080s are already being used in pre mades when the retail situation is crazy bad at the mo.

Understand that there are probably different supplies for these 2 situations, and it isn't like CL are raising retail boxes to build rigs. But still somewhat frustrating.

Sent them an email about a "ready to ship" system and adding an extra hard drive to it saturday morning, got a reply around 9.20am, Ordered about 10.30. They put in the extra drive and emailed me it was ready for pickup around 1pm, got there about 2pm.

They had 2 of the systems in stock saturday morning (currently none in stock)

This is the one I got https://www.computerlounge.co.nz/shop/ready-to-ship/ravage-gaming-pc
