Most flat surfaces will work fine with a laser mouse if they're not too reflective. Even a dinner placemat or something will work. I just use my desk with no pad, but I don't have any inconsistencies in the surface of the desk.

It worked on my stand up sit down desk that my wife stole but the new white desk I am using is very glossy and it just does not want to work

Lighting. I have some challenges. Desk in a shaded area against a wall. The main house led downlights lights are ok they don't entirely reach to my desk. I'm thinking of installing one or two in that area. I'm aware the electrician found that area difficult for some reason and I'm not keen to look. I've never liked lights directly over my desk anyway.

I've tried a couple of bare hues in the area. Doesn't really work for me. Just now I'm thinking something really diffuse could work. I might be talking myself into a hue lightstrip in some kind of channel to diffuse it. I don't need remote and it seems like overkill on the wallet. Suggestions welcome.

I've got a somewhat similar problem with my desk. It's in front of a small window but doesn't get great light. I'm experimenting with a monitor light which seems quite promising.

I've got one of these. It's a year old now and getting a little bit ratty but is stilly perfectly functional. I'd get another.

I use it and I love it... it gives you a lot of room specially if you play FPS games. The hard part is to keep it clean, though.

I use it and I love it... it gives you a lot of room specially if you play FPS games. The hard part is to keep it clean, though.

I am a clean freak. I wide down my desk daily.

The new addition for my dest has changed status to "shipped" well at least picked up in Shanghai. No idea when it will arrive. I am guessing maybe end of next week

I don't want to start a new thread and this question is related to WFH so this is probably the best place to ask.

I'm looking to buy a new monitor, I haven't bought a monitor for ~15yrs so I'm a bit lost.

I understand 27 inch is the current sweet spot for non ultra-wide displays but I'd like to keep it to 24 inch as I only have a small desk when I WFH. Outside of lockdown I will WFH 1-2 days per week but I'd also like to use if for mine and my wife's personal use. So it needs to support:

HP work laptop (Windows 10)
2017 Intel Macbook Pro (my personal laptop)
2020 M1 Macbook Air (wife's personal laptop)

Would really appreciate the convenience of a USB C monitor with at least 65W PD to make chopping and changing laptops easier and less mess on the desk. This is where I'm getting tripped up, I've read there are issues with M1 Macbooks and scaling?

Is it possible to buy 1 monitor to meet these needs without spending the earth? Does anyone have a suggestion. Budget would be ~$700-$800

This is reasonably priced, but is HDMI as opposed to USB-C. You can get an adaptor easily enough though.

I have one of these and it’s pretty good for the price. Not 24” as such but i feel like you’d get used to size upgrade in no time. No USB C input however but there are other Dell monitors with that connectivity.

Still well within your budget though (but I know nothing about that M1 macbook issue you are referring to)

PBtech also have some older model U2414 24" 1920x1080 ex lease screens for <$200 though of course they're not USB C as a 2014 year of release model. (Dell nomenclature = first two digits screen size, second two digits year of first release, they usually keep them in production quite a few years).

I like the Dell Ultrasharp line. I ordered one because the spare monitor I had here died within hours of telling my SO not to bother bringing her work monitor home to WFH, and there's just no way in hell she can work on spreadsheets etc on her work windows tablet, 24" is about the largest that'll fit on her desk. PBtech claimed "A grade" - it seems as new. They also delivered that - and a separate order I'd placed for something else - one day before estimated delivery, both via Courier Post, both ordered after lockdown. Kudos to both PBtech and Courier Post. Well done.
